Newsday is out with a report from the Census Bureau on the population trends in Long Island’s Nassau County…
The county is a little less than 60% white….
But that number is dropping…
Hispanic and Asians are making up the growth in county population which is 1,355, 319 people….
The county’s population is actually larger than 10 American states...
Neighbouring Suffolk County has also had a signicfact growth in Hispanics , slightly higher than Nassau , but it’s Asian, and Black populations are lower and remain the same as in previous years…
Long Island’s Hispanic population grew by 18.5 percent between July 2010 and July 2018, according to new Census estimates, rising from 14.7 percent of the Nassau population to 17.2 percent, and from 16.6 percent of the Suffolk population to 19.8 percent during that period.
The chart below shows the percentage breakdown for each county and the table gives the actual numbers. There are figures for the Hispanic and non-Hispanic populations for each of six racial groups in the table. The chart compares percentages for all Hispanics with the non-Hispanic counts for the racial groups. The three smallest of those groups, American Indian and Alaska native, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islanders, and people of two or more races, were combined into an “other” category.
