I have said here that I believe Donald Trump is gonna be a one term President…..
My sons have doubts on that….
I don’t….
Less than a year out from Election Day there are several reasons why I stand by my view….
- Trump is more unpopular than any President in recent history….
- All of the first tier Democrats vying for the nomination beat Trump in head to head polling now…
- Joe Biden beats him 11 of the 13 Real Clear Politics state polls…
- Joe Biden beats him by about 10% points head to head…Others less so…
- Trump is about to go on trial for several things that we ALL KNOW he did wrong…
- Trump has solid support from fellow Republicans, who admit he does things they don’t like…
- The American economy is said to be strong, but a large among of people do NOT believe that…
- .Unlike the last time?…We NOW KNOW who and what Donald Trump is…
Those are my reasons…
Here’s so more….
Virtually all the reputable national polls show the president is in serious trouble, and I’m not just referring to his job approval numbers in the low-to-mid 40s.
Apart from Emerson College polls showing a virtual dead heat between Trump and Warren, most national surveys show Warren leading the president by 5 to 8 points.
Those same polls show Biden leading Trump by 10 to 12 points.
Even Sanders, who is outside the political mainstream, leads Trump by 6 to 9 points in most surveys (again excluding Emerson, which always seems to be an outlier).
There are a few polls showing trial heats of Trump-Buttigieg, but the few reputable surveys suggest anything from an even race to Buttigieg up by a half-dozen points.
Of course, we all have discounted national polls because of what happened three years ago. But if the Democratic nominee wins not by 2 points but by 6 or 8, it would be difficult for Trump to win at least 270 electoral votes.
Democratic nervousness seems to stem primarily from a handful of polls in a few crucial states, including the three key Great Lakes states that Clinton lost: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. (They seem to ignore Arizona and Florida, two interesting states that offer Democrats serious opportunities next year.)
There are relatively few highly regarded polls in these and other swing states, and that undoubtedly has added to Democratic anxiety.
So has a series of New York Times/Siena College polls showing close races for various challengers to Trump.
But again, we are talking about a handful of polls in states that are not early in the nominating process.
In other words, states where swing voters have not really focused on the candidates.
The state polls show mixed results, some showing Trump ahead and others suggesting that Biden, at least, has a narrow but clear general election advantage.
For now, there is simply no empirical reason to believe that Trump will win next year.
In fact, the evidence is not compelling in either direction. A strong Democratic turnout, including votes from people who voted third party the last time or skipped the presidential race entirely, would put the president in a substantial electoral hole.
On the other hand, poor minority turnout would create a challenging environment for the eventual Democratic nominee.
For the moment, all we can safely say is that polls continue to confirm that Trump is in deep trouble, with a job approval rating that no incumbent president seeking reelection would want….

48.5% Biden to 44% Trump is an alarmingly low margin, small enough that Trump could keep the White House while winning few popular votes than Biden.
Small differences in a few states could, as in 2016, swing the Electoral College. Voter suppression and foreign or domestic cyber-attacks & social-media manipulation could tip the balance.
Not to mention the possibility that a genuine shift in popular opinion, and legitimate differences in voter enthusiasm & turnout could swing enough votes in just a few states.

“Indicted”
Wrong word.
If Trump had been “indicted” he would potentially have faced a jury randomly drawn and a real trial complete with a judge to make legal rulings ,,witnesses and the introduction of evidence.
Trump has been “impeached “ which is a political process. He will face an already selected jury who has already heard the evidence before the “trial,” a Judge whose rulings may be overriden by the jury and the possibility of no evidence ot witnesses actually appearing.
Do not insinuate in any way that this is a”legal” process. While it possesses some of the accoutrements of such, it decidedly is not .
In this case(and CG will like this)it’s more like a Professional Wrestling match(appropriate for Trump, a participant in the Wrestling business.)The result is already predetermined Now, all that remains is the event itself .

Politicalwire has a story saying the Trump campaign thinks their key to reelection is crushing the never Trump segment of the GOP.
I think they have done exactly that. But all it did was move those mostly suburban educated voters into the Democratic party in 2018.
I don’t think there will be an independent candidate of note so I expect conservatives who continue to disdain Trump like Evan McMullin and John Kasich to do the right thing and endorse the Democratic nominee.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes I find that surprising really.
I agree.
They have Already “crushed” the NeverTrumpers in the Republican Party.I mean who exactly are they talking about?
I know of no NeverTrumper who possesses any real influence in today’s Republican Party.
What more are they going to do to them?
Scott P says
Per the same article Trump and company seem to think they can win the same kind of tiny counties in Minnesota they won in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
Maybe they will. But like the “crushing” of never Trumpers how much more water cab they get from those wells?
So they win a few hundred counties with 5-10k people by an extra 5% or a few hundred votes each. Meanwhile they bleed support in suburban counties with two or three hundred thousand people.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I’m sure that the motive (not really a reason) for starting in on the Never-Trumpers is that Donald Trump cannot bear even the slightest criticism or contradiction, and the closer the worse, starting with personal advisers and White House staff.
So, after having beaten 16 other Republicans in 2016, he doesn’t want even the slightest note of dissent in favour of Weld, Thompson, et al.
This phenomenon has been most prominent on the authoritarian left: Stalin had the harshest obloquy for those Bolsheviks who followed Trotsky or Bukharin, followed by the Social Democrats (or as the Stalinists called them, “Social Fascists”) who were declared more dangerous than the Nazis or the Fascists.

I have no choice but to point out that nowhere on my blog did I claim or predict that no Republican in the Senate would vote against Trump. People can choose to read or not read my “ramblings” for themselves, but I clearly said that such a thing was unknown and it’s just beyond explanation why someone would try to claim otherwise. There are some people who clearly seem to care about prolonging decades long partisan battles until their final days instead of trying to find something positive about another person on another side or having any idealism or hope that things could ever get better for the country. This seems to be Trumpism in practice.
I have no real desire for a series of “goodbye” posts or to offer anything other than well-wishes to the small crowd here, but it is beyond clear that *almost* all of the people who are most involved here and who want to engage me either have cognitive or comprehension problems about things I have either said or not said that do nothing but frustrate me or that they have malicious motives in just trying to engage me in an internet “fight.” That just speaks to who they are, at least in this sort of format. I used to find being a “punching bag”” to be fun because I could when I chose to, swing back, but life is just too short. Congressman Denny Heck is on to something.

A federal appeals court reviewing Obamacare has ruled the law’s individual mandate is unconstitutional but did not invalidate the entire law. The court ordered a lower court judge to reconsider whether any of the sweeping law can survive.
The appeals court’s decision keeps the legal threat to Obamacare alive while reducing the likelihood the Supreme Court could render a final verdict on the law before the 2020 elections.

Actually, I thought he gave more than he received – and was as personal in his criticisms as we were.
He previously called me a liar and on a different situation told me that I have frequently have problems with analytical analysis. Yet he complains about us for not finding the good in the other party.
He often complained about us being partisan, yet he never voted for a Democrat – even though some of the sacrificial Republicans running in Cook County are remarkably unqualified (to use a polite term).
He complains about us being malicious, yet he freely admits that if he could have gotten Keith fired, then he would have gladly done so. Talk about extreme levels of being malicious!
So no, I don’t agree that he gave as “good as he took”. I felt he gave more than he took.
His arguments were notoriously simple (“A lie is a lie” was his reason for compare two unrelated situations with far different implications).
Jack would sometimes praise CG’s intelligence. I don’t think I would agree – although I agree he wasn’t stupid. CG could write well, and he usually did well in his forecasts (which were usually – and appropriately, influenced by polling), but he had an inability to see other people’s point of view. For example, he once stated “there is no reason to oppose coal production” even though coal needs to be subsidized in order to be produced, it causes environmental damage, black lung disease, and provides relatively few jobs in 2020. As an economist, I know it is never a true “conservative” argument to support the production of anything that requires government subsidization to produce – and that does not even account for the additional problems of environmental damage and black lung disease.
All of us can be hypocritical at times – without even realizing it, but I don’t think any of us are as hypocritical as CG. That is my honest perspective.
Spending time away from us might even be good for him because maybe time away from us will help him more effectively see what the Republican Party really is and was – even before Trump entered the scene. Right now, he appears to just have a reflexive negative reaction to anything we say – especially if it pertains to him.

Ghost of SE says
After so long away, I do feel I should clear the air in regards to my leaving a few years ago. Ultimately, it was not the prevalence of pot stirring from certain posters on here that drove me off—That has been a truth on here for many years now. What ultimately led to my deciding to cut bait was the realization that James was only ever interested in my posts because of their ‘proven ability’ to get clicks, essentially saying that I was some weird conduit for what he really wanted all along, which was numbers! My move from relatively unserious piddle to more serious posts(and, as it turned out, thought processes too) saw him losing enthusiasm over my output and his sharp turning to some of the other stirrers of the pot on here. It was when the invective directed my way started going up to unseen levels that I quickly realized that James’ muted response reflected the reality of the sentiments I mentioned previously. Ultimately, I chose to part with an attempt at a conciliatory word towards the offending party.
Moreover, with my much waned appetite for internet posts in general(I seldom update my blog, and I have torched my Facebook and Twitter profiles), I have had the opportunity to properly see myself as a washed up, failed blogger who(sans YouTube) was never successful at the art of translating well on the online mediums. Sadly, looking back, I now see that I always knew deep down that Jack was right to criticize James and I for the things which were allowed in our time. Perhaps things would have been better had I waited a few more years, but I wasn’t interested in that idea. Perhaps this is all stating the obvious, but it did take me a long while to come to these conclusions.
Going back to the dawn of my days as an online poster, I joined my first blog over a mix of respective uncertainty and enthused objections from my parents, who both cited factual basis for their concerns. A thought that just occurred to me is that one should always listen when people give a solid, factual basis for their concerns. However, when people get emotional and hot-headed(as one parent did when I first broached the idea of YouTube uploading), you can take it as a license to have great fun with your plans!
My aim going forward is both a continuation of my almost decade of video making and a stab at fiction writing(Given my history on here, one can say I’m very qualified for this role!). As always, it is time to ring out the old and ring in the new, exchanging false for true. This is all I’ve come to say. Good day!

Finishing up the economy and carrying Obamacare and GOP political knife fights along with flashes of crazy stuff around the planet he managed to pull things together…
His approval ROSE in his 4th year in office….
We’ll see if Trump does…
I doubt it….
Unless he starts moving back to the middle which I see hints of ALREADY…

This weeks Gallup Poll shows approval of Trump among Republicans at 89%.
Trumps approval among Republicans on the day he was inaugurated was,89%.
In other words, all the pure cow manure you’ve heard here about how Trump was losing support among Republicans is shown to be just that.
Scott P says
Listening to impeachment and all these Southern Republicans kissing Trump’s orange ass.
He’d mock their drawls in a New York minute like he did Jeff Sessions if they ever crossed him.
And like Sessions they’d come crawling back to kiss it one more time.
Pathetic pathetic pathetic

I stopped by HHR today.
CG has returned to posting there.
More conducive does he find that gaggle of Trump supporters and apolologists than us “ libruls”
Well, at least, they are all fellow Republicans.
CG says
No, they are deplorables and on the rare occasions I post there, I am their “villain”.. the same role you want me to play for yourself.
My Name Is Jack says
I really don’t understand why you think I consider you a”villain.”
We disagree politically ,but I don’t consider you a”villain.”
As I said here the other day,you have always given as good as you took here ,in my view.
Amusingly, I probably have a higher opinion of you than those folks at HHR.
However, you may believe what you wish.
CG says
I don’t know your internal thoughts, if I wore a red MAGA hat, you might even vote for me to be Soil Commissioner, but you sure go to great lengths to insult me on matters that should have nothing to do with “policy differences.” The bottom line is that you respect pro-Trump conservatives more than anti-Trump ones because it fights your black and white conflict narrative. The fact that people who have “policy differences” but share other beliefs and values in regards to DJT or whatever should actually be pointed at as a good thing. But for some, it has to be “all or nothing.” It’s no different than attacking the Christianity Today editorial as being irrelevant. NeverTrumpers are not irrelevant in TrumpWorld. They wouldn’t be so obsessed about attacking us and crushing us at every turn if we didn’t “”haunt” them and their consciences as one writer once put it.
No matter how many times I explain something, you claim I believe things that I don’t such as claiming you read my blog and I “now am agreeing that no Republican in the Senate will vote to convict.” I said no such thing at all. But you know that nobody is likely to go there and read it so they will take your word for it.
My Name Is Jack says
I said it was not relevant to what James was claiming.I said that it was interesting but it doesn’t prove that Evangelicals are turning against Trump.CT has never taken a position on Trump according to their statements.
As to what was on your blog? After rereading I would agree that my interpretation was based on amisreading of what you posted. You were quoting what others were saying without either agreeing or disagreeing.I was wrong to post what I did.I apologize.
As for “insulting “ you?I “insult” you about as much as you insult me.
CG says
Thank you for that clarification on what I wrote.
I think the editorial is relevant just to the extent that people are talking about it so much. It shows that there are many Evangelicals who have this belief about Trump but have remained silent about it. Once a ball gets rolling, it can be contagious and cause more people to speak out or at least re-examine their thoughts. That’s how all movements towards progress and justice begin.
It has often been talked about how Evangelicals (and others) voted for Trump and are sticking by him on other matters solely because they fear the alternative so much. That does not mean they do not dislike the deal they have to make with themselves to do so. They need to be called to account as to the price to be paid to stand with Trump. That was the point of the editorial, along with how they are being consistent with what they said 20 years ago about Bill Clinton’s conduct and fitness to be President.
CG says
At least if I feel like insulting people for my own benefit and setting them off in the process, I can reach more there than here.
jamesb says
I wonder how many visits HHR gets per day?
Keith says
The evangelicals are already circling the wagons around Trump and this editorial will soon become a “one off” and forgotten. Because the majority of evangelicals are loyal to their “Great White Hope” and really want to control what goes on in a woman’s vagina.
Glad these folks wrote the editorial, but they wrote the same basic thing about Nixon and Clinton. They have a moral compass that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the white evangelical community.
SAD.
jamesb says
It IS SAD….
Voices crying out loud in the dark….

Former GOP Rep David Trott of Michigan has written an editorial calling for Trump’s removal.
Again another former Republican official finding courage. None in office or in the party currently seem to find that backbone.
jamesb says
Yup!🙄
