Hmmmmm?
Barr’s Department of Justice has just scored convictions against ole Trump buddy Roger Stone ….
Barr’s US Attorney for the Southern District of New York has grand jury hearing stuff about Rudy Giuliani , who probably used to be Donald Trump’s lawyer/mouth piece…
And
Donald Trump does NOT keep people around that do NOT do what he wants legally or ILLEGALLY…
Perhaps Barr is seeking somehow to rehabilitate himself as a respectable establishment figure within the government, the reputation he had before he put his integrity on layaway down at Camp Runamuck. (Not that anything he’s done since has been at odds with the image of a Republican Winston Wolf that Barr built in the extended denouement of the Iran-Contra scandal.) It merely could be one more rodent down the ratline.
But, whatever the reason, Barr’s refusal is a vivid indication that the president* is running out of alibis, allies, and options.
In recent weeks, the Justice Department has sought some distance from the White House, particularly on matters relating to the burgeoning controversy over Trump’s dealings on Ukraine and the impeachment inquiry they sparked. People close to the administration say Barr and Trump remain on good terms…But those close to the administration also concede that the department has made several recent maneuvers putting it at odds with the White House at a particularly precarious time for the president. Like others, they spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the politically fraught situation….

No

No he isn’t losing Barr.
No the Republicans aren’t turning on Trump. See yesterday’s pathetic performance.
And, yes, the Democratic nomination process is still wide open.
Amazing that our resident Republican apologist continues to defend his Party in the face of their racist (see Steven Miller) and homophobic policies (see Mike Pence).
The constant “whataboutism” is off putting in terms of having a serious discussion here. This President is a danger to our Democracy, yet he is excused here daily by two people who refuse, for very different reasons, to admit he has total control of the Republican Party.

That’s NOT me…..
It’s Trump’s party alright…
Rotten fish and all…
As for the nomination?
I’ll stick to my story….
Ole’ Joe Biden IS in the lead in 5 of the 7 first states to votes….
Neck and Neck in NH and Iowa both which are fluid and ARE NOT made up of who will decide the nomination …
The others would trade their shirts to be where Biden is….

James, I strongly suggest you review Barr’s speech before the pro Trump Federalist Society earlier this week.
Not only he is still on the Trump reservation,he is All In and blaming the Democrats for trying to subvert the will of the voters.
We all know of your increasingly desperate efforts to “prove” that Republicans are “ deserting” Trump .Of course nothing could be further from the truth.
Republicans,Barr included, remain overwhelmingly supportive of their party leader and Your continuing effort to prove otherwise is totally without merit.

Send me a link someone…
The speech will be meaningless in me….
Mattis , Tillerson, Nielsen where ALL. cursing Trump in private and singing his praise before they got sent packing….
Barr’s DOJ is squeezing Trump’s gang members….
Barr days as AG ARE numbered….

It really doesn’t take a lot of effort or experimentation to find that link, James. I just entered “attorney+general+william+barr+speech+federalist+society” on Bing. The first item in the list that came up was a C-Span video and the third was his prepared text at the DoJ web site (but no I haven’t yet seen or read either)

But Barr wasn’t brief: his speech lasted over an hour and the prepared text has 6,167 words (12 pages of 12-point Times Roman type).

Yea….

I just finished reading Atty-Gen. Barr’s speech whose topic was the power of the Executive in relation to Congress and the courts.
In general, Barr wants to re-assert the Presidency against what he sees as the improper incursions of the other branches of government.
As a corollary. within the Executive, he says that the unitary and peremptory authority of one man, the President himself, needs to be reasserted over the rest of the Executive apparatus, such as the civil service and the Resistance.
I won’t try to recall and summarise the other parts of his speech, but some of them are simply dependent on which party controls each branch in the era of divided government [beginning in 1947 or 1955]. Were we in the Clinton or Obama administrations, when Republicans controlled the House of Representatives for 12 years out of 16 and the Senate for 8 out of 16, I very much doubt that he would be criticising (say) Newt Gingrich or Mitch McConnell, both of whom declared their intent to use the full powers of Congress in s negative way to thwart what they saw as the illegitimate and dangerous actions of the President. Nor would he support the virile and vigorous assertion of Presidential power.

Overall, William Barr’s speech is rather muddy and sometimes inconsistent; no doubt several hands and minds contributed to writing it.
