Gheez?
ANOTHER New York Rich Guy wants to be President?
And as a Democrat MO Less?
I REALLY see this going nowhere…
But the media is gonna have celebration….
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is preparing to file paperwork to qualify for the Democratic presidential primary in Alabama, ahead of a Friday deadline. The move would be a first step toward a national campaign, though Bloomberg has not made a final decision to run.
“We now need to finish the job and ensure that Trump is defeated — but Mike is increasingly concerned that the current field of candidates is not well positioned to do that,” longtime Bloomberg aide Howard Wolfson said in an email. “If Mike runs he would offer a new choice to Democrats built on a unique record running America’s biggest city, building a business from scratch and taking on some of America’s toughest challenges as a high-impact philanthropist.”
Bloomberg has engaged in a will-he-or-won’t-he routine for over a decade about running for president, but declined to jump in each time. Earlier this year he was exploring a bid, only to bow out after former Vice President Joe Biden made clear he would run.
“I believe I would defeat Donald Trump in a general election,” Bloomberg wrote in March. “But I am clear-eyed about the difficulty of winning the Democratic nomination in such a crowded field.”
“He’s tired of being the almost-ran,” said one former Bloomberg adviser on Thursday after the New York Times first reported news of his moves. “Mortality is weighing heavily on him. This is the last time that he can run.”
Bloomberg will almost certainly not qualify for the next debate in Atlanta on Nov. 20 and he will likely have to spend tens of millions of dollars in the next few weeks to make the debate stage in December, potentially setting a record for campaign spending in a short amount of time. His current wealth is estimated at $52 billion, per Forbes.////
Note…..
Mike Bloomberg is 77 years old…

Post here finally…..
jamesb says
Remember….
Mike Bloomberg did THREE TERMS as the REPUBLICAN Mayor of New York City…..
CG says
Wouldn’t you prefer him to Trump?
jamesb says
Neither…..
CG says
He’s just as bad?
jamesb says
No…..
Mike Bloomberg is NOT….
First of all?
He’s REALLY RICH….
Not bull shitty like Trump…
No scandals like Trump….
The guy did 3 terms AFTER Giuliani …
He ran the city as a business man would….
He was a numbers man….
It will bother Democrats that even though Bloomberg was a Blue City/State policy Republican…
He was STILL a Republican….
I’m NOT supportive of REALLY rich politicians ….
They seem to forget certain things…..
CG says
He wasn’t REALLY a Republican. Everyone knows that.
You would vote for him against Trump or no?
As of this moment, I see no reason why I wouldn’t. (and believe me, I have a lot more disagreements with him than agreements on issues)
Being rich is actually a good thing. Someone like Bloomberg made it himself. He’s almost certainly a really good negotiator.
jamesb says
That hypothetical just won’t come….
No need to entertain it…..
Being REALLY rich is a deal breaker for me….
How many people got screwed for the person to get there?
And they tend to discount the little people and those who don’t produce a profit, which is NOT what government is always about….
Anyways?
Bloomberg isn’t gonna get good numbers…
And part of that is about Donald J. Trump….
CG says
“Being REALLY rich is a deal breaker for me….
How many people got screwed for the person to get there?”
Socialism101. You are wasting your time with Biden. You belong with Warren or Bernie.
jamesb says
Please notice the “REALLY’….
Zreebs says
Unlike James, Neither Warren nor Sandets has anything against rich people.
jamesb says
I always surprise people here when point out that the ‘Big Apple’ had 20 years of Republican mayors not too long ago ….
And?
New York state also had a 3term Republican governor after Rockefeller…..
CG says
Michael Bloomberg was once technically a Republican Mayor and Elton John was once technically married to a woman.
The full picture tells a different story.
jamesb says
“Money Mike’ for 12 YEARS.…
CG says
Unlike Bernie Sanders, Bloomberg actually became a Democrat.
And of course, needless to say he was one for most of his life (he only changed parties to run for Mayor on Giuliani’s then coattails), so he was a Democrat long before Elizabeth Warren became one. I suppose Biden can’t hold that against him.
jamesb says
The guy isn’t going anywhere…
He KNOWS it …said so himself….
In an op-ed published in Bloomberg News, Bloomberg acknowledged that his path to the Democratic nomination would be narrow, stating that mounting a long-shot campaign for the White House would detract from his work on other issues, such as climate change and gun violence.
jamesb says
Again?
This will be a media bonanza for a few…..
CG says
The actual Bloomberg Bonanza will not start until after Iowa votes
If Biden rights the ship, all this is for naught.
But clearly, Bloomberg is hearing from his (rich) Democrat friend that they are terrified of Elizabeth Warren and he needs to run as an insurance policy to try to stop her.
jamesb says
You’re probably right….
BTW?
Warren texted Bill Gates that she IS willing to sit down with him and talk taxes…..
Gates griped that he pays enough taxes on his billions and doesn’t want to pay more…
She said she’d listen…
Her going after the rich, who sometimes ARE Democrats , is going nowhere…..
Zreebs says
Gates has said he should have to pay higher taxes. I am glad that he is meeting with Warren.
CG says
That’s a really old Op-Ed at this point. He seemed not to realize that Joe Biden was going to faee as many obstacles as he has that just about everyone but you can see.
jamesb says
Old but he showed the sense that he could make a speech, but his resume knocks him out of the box and he knows it…..
$100M in tweed money to Democrats won’t erase the 12 years
CG says
It appears that Bloomberg has already passed my first litmus test. Good to know.

Democratic Socialist Dave says
Traditionally, people would trust REALLY rich people not to try to profit from whatever office they were seeking (too rich to steal). That’s one of the arguments that the Roosevelts and Kennedy made (although TR out of office did have some financial difficulties that made him, like Winston Churchill, need to write and speak constantly just to make ends meet).
Voters know that Bill Gates, Mike Bloomberg, Pete DuPont, H. John Heinz IV and Mortimer Zuckerman have (or had) no need to cheat the system (although they might want to guide regulations in ways that benefit their industries — partly because their business experience has made them look at laws and regulations that way).
The danger is from people like Donald Trump or Don Blankenship, who may be (at least on paper) richer than any of the posters here but may also have enormous trouble managing his businesses, property and wealth.
jamesb says
Thank You DSD….
Zreebs says
so Donald Trump May be richer than any of the posters here – at least on paper?
Just out of curiosity, which of the posters do you think might be richer than Trump?
Zreebs says
In truth, I am not thrilled with any of the Democratic candidates. If Buttigieg could start polling better in a head-to-head with Trump, I might support him. He has run an impressive campaign so far.
I completely expect to vote for the Democratic nominee.
Keith says
Me too Zreebs, even Bernie, simply not voting for Trump isn’t an option given what’s happening today in America.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes count me in .
My prime focus is defeating Donald Trump.
Scott P says
Me too. If you are truly opposed to Dobald Trump voting for the Dr.ocratic nominee is imperative.
CG says
I know you do not intend it that way, but that sounds vaguely communist,
As if there are only officially approved parties or candidates and that no other free expression is allowed.
Also, you should maybe focus on james, since he seems to be suggesting that it’s Biden or Bust for him in terms of his November vote.
Scott P says
Nate Silver points out that in early 2019 when Bloomberg was consideribg getting into the race he was only polling at 3%.
Any rrason to think he’d do any better now?
We’ll see.
jamesb says
No….
Zreebs says
Yes- That 3% figure was before Bloomberg flooded the airways. My best guess is that we should get ready for lots of Bloomberg commercials
My Name Is Jack says
Well Bloomberg isn’t just some rich guy.
Unlike Steyer ,Schultz ,and even Trump before he an for President.
Bloomberg served as Mayor of New York City and was credited with doing a good job.It is a mistake to just dismiss him.
Indeed, if we are to seriously consider Pete Buttigieg ,who was Mayor of South Bend Indiana ,then maybe the former Mayor of the largest city in the country is due similar consideration.
jamesb says
Jack…..
Bloomberg was the REPUBLICAN mayor of NYC…..
jamesb says
ANYBODY think Democrats are gonna just up and vote for Bloomberg?
Cause he doesn’t…
Especially Progressive Democrats????
And minority Democrats?
CG says
Well, he never would have won three terms as Mayor of NYC (two of them easily) if liberal and minority Democrats were not willing to vote for him in substantial numbers.
CG says
Abraham Lincoln was the REPUBLICAN President of the USA.
jamesb says
So what on Lincoln back in the day?
CG says
You say REPUBLICAN as if it were …. (something else really bad)
So what if Bloomberg is a liberal former RINO? Why are you unwilling to get past that but think it was a good thing that Biden used to backslap and cajole with his one time segregationist colleagues?
My Name Is Jack says
So ?Hes a Democrat now.
It must have escaped your notice that one of the two top present candidates used to be a Republican.
I’m not endorsing him .Im just stating that he’s a serious candidate who served n an office arguably as important as the Governorship of many of our states.
jamesb says
Come on people….
AGAIN….
Bloomberg was a Republican mayor of NYC. for 12 YEARS….
The opposition research playback would be devastating…..
Give me a break!
He’s a nothing…
CG says
The opposition research from whom?
Republicans!
Conservatives aren’t going to like much of what he did or the causes he adopted in office or since.
But he was successful as Mayor. That should “trump” whatever party label he may have had or used strictly for political reasons, right?
CG says
Does anyone really consider Biden to the left of Bloomberg?
I’d say overall, Bloomberg is to the left of Biden, but is less willing to pander to the left for political reasons.
My Name Is Jack says
Bloomberg would be far more acceptable to a lot of Biden Democrats than Warren or Sanders.
jamesb says

Joe Biden on Michael Bloomberg: “I welcome him in the race. Michael’s a solid guy…I have no problem with him getting in the race.” https://abcn.ws/2p01zEF
Scott P says
DeBlasio didn’t.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Speaking of Alabama, I have this feeling that at today’s game between LSU and The Crimson Tide, President Trump will get a far, far warmer welcome than he got from fans “BOO !! Lock him up !” at the Nationals’ home game against the Astros in the World Series.
He might want to linger and bask with His People, i.e. the Real America this afternoon rather than skulk way like a sourpuss (is he bringing the children ?)
jamesb says
LSU WON……
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Bear Bryant may weep, but Donald Trump beamed as he basked in the applause. The fans, alas, went wild.
jamesb says
Isn’t that a state with a Democratic Senator?
My Name Is Jack says
I think we all know that Jones won only because of the “quality “ of the Republican alternative.
I don’t think Moore stands much of a chance of being the Republican nominee this time;however, if he is?
With Trump leading the ballot? He will be the favorite.
Whichever way it goes?Jones is ,by far ,the most vulnerable incumbent of either party in the country.
jamesb says
Agreed…..
