The shadowy leader of the Islamic State group who presided over its global jihad and became arguably the world’s most wanted man, is dead after being targeted by a U.S. military raid in Syria, President Donald Trump said Sunday.
“Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is dead,” Trump announced at the White House, saying the U.S. had “brought the world’s number one terrorist leader to justice.”
Addressing the nation from the White House on Sunday morning, Trump described a daring nighttime airborne raid by American special operations forces in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province and said they flew over heavily militarized territory controlled by multiple nations and forces. No U.S. troops were killed in the operation, Trump said.
The death of al-Baghdadi marked a major milestone in the fight against the Islamic State, which brutalized swaths of Syria and Iraq and sought to direct a global terrorism campaign from a self-declared “caliphate.” A yearslong campaign by American and allied forces led to the recapture of the group’s territorial holding, but its violent ideology has continued to inspire attacks….

News of the action by American military units will undoubtedly be used by Trump and his handlers for HIS political benefit…
The operation is also a message that the American military can and will continue operating IN Syria …Is also confirms that ISIS is still around in some form that needs to be kept in check…

Trump’s description of the action on scene has already come in to question by the Pentagon….And he did NOT notify Democratic Congressional leaders of the raid, when he boasted he DID notify the Russians….Normally any action of this sort would have the President notifying Congress in the form the ‘gang of Eight’ top House and Senate leadership….
Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper, who monitored the raid along with Mr. Trump in the Situation Room on Saturday, said he knew nothing about any “whimpering,” and other officials said it was not possible to hear anything like that on the overhead drone feed the president watched. But Mr. Esper and other officials said Mr. Trump might have gotten that detail from commanders on the ground.
The raid came at a time when Washington has been roiled by an impeachment battle putting Mr. Trump’s presidency in jeopardy as well as a storm of criticism over his decision to pull most American forces out of Syria. Rather than create a moment when a polarized city came together, the successful raid simply fueled the debates consuming the capital.
Indeed, while he tipped off a couple of Republican senators, Mr. Trump made a point of refusing to inform Speaker Nancy Pelosi or other Democratic leaders in advance of the raid, as is customary, saying they could not be trusted not to leak, even though he said he notified Russia beforehand….
