For NY Giants NFL Football fans from the New York Daily News…..
Dwayne Haskins made a strong case at the NFL Combine on Friday that he is the franchise quarterback the Giants have been waiting for.
He said playing for the Giants would be “a dream come true,” and is even willing to sit for a year behind a veteran like Eli Manning if necessary, according to a source, which would fit into the “Kansas City model” that Dave Gettleman and Steve Tisch endorsed this week.
The only problem is Haskins’ intelligence and impressive presentation at the podium, combined with his obvious physical skills, will make the former Ohio State quarterback equally attractive to 31 other franchises. His detailed understanding of the game, especially, is obvious.
“He gets it,” Super Bowl champion Trent Dilfer told the Daily News of Haskins, who came through Dilfer’s Elite 11 quarterback camp in 2015. “He’s one of the best I’ve ever had.”
So if the Giants’ interview with Haskins on Friday night cements him as their guy, there is a good chance they will have to trade up from No. 6 into the top two or three picks to get him.
“A dream come true.”
The good news is Haskins would love to be a Giant.
“Growing up in New Jersey, I grew up a Giants fan, so it’d be a dream come true as far as being able to go back where my family is and play for that great franchise (with) a lot of really great skill players,” Haskins said. “Either way it happens, I’m just gonna be excited to be in the NFL. Of course, New York would be a great spot for me.”
There is a football reason, too: Haskins, 21, said the sky would be the limit for an offense that included him, Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley…..
