The media Democratic wonder guy is talking about What?
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer met with former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke last week to discuss a possible 2020 Senate campaign against GOP Sen. John Cornyn, according to a source familiar with the meeting.
O’Rourke, a Democrat who lost narrowly against Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018, is considering running for president and hasn’t publicly discussed running again for Senate in 2020. But he also hasn’t ruled it out.
O’Rourke and former Obama Cabinet secretary Julián Castro — who has announced his own White House bid — are considered by many Democrats to be the party‘s best prospects for defeating Cornyn.
A spokesman for O’Rourke did not return a request for comment on the meeting. Schumer’s office declined to comment.
If O’Rourke chose to challenge Cornyn instead of seeking the Democratic nomination for president, he would immediately have the support of Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) — Julián Castro’s twin brother.
“Joaquin believes Beto could beat John in 2020, and if Beto decides to see this thing through and do that, then Joaquin will give him his full support, just like he did against Ted Cruz,” a source close to Castro told POLITICO. “Otherwise, Joaquin will absolutely consider jumping in and finishing the job.”……

A survey from the left-leaning firm Public Policy Polling (PPP) released Friday shows O’Rourke polling just 2 points behind incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in a hypothetical matchup, 47 to 45 percent with 8 percent of registered voters undecided….

Two Democratic campaign strategists told Politico that they are in discussions with Beto O’Rourke and his team.
One of the strategists described those conversations as moving to “an operational level” after weeks of discussing 2020 in more theoretical terms.
“O’Rourke’s advisers had been speaking with Democratic strategists for months about a potential campaign, but only at a relatively abstract level… But after a massive rally in his hometown of El Paso this week, O’Rourke is now becoming personally involved in discussions about the shape of a 2020 campaign, the strategists said.”…
