2020: In preparation for his 2020 reelection campaign, Sir Tweetalot is creating a behemoth that would more or less swallow the RNC, solidifying his grip on the Republican Party. While the streamlining of the two organizations may make sense from a campaign viewpoint, it would also mean that the party’s fortunes would be tied to the president’s to an even greater degree than today. 2020: She’s running! Maine Senator Susan Collins (R) said Sunday that she welcomed primary opponents to the Trumpster, calling such challenges “healthy for our democracy”. She pointedly refused to endorse his reelection. There has been some speculation that outgoing Ohio Gov. John Kasich could primary the president and Collins supported Kasich in 2016.
2020: Politico has an article about the impact of California moving up its primary from June to March. With possibly as many as four local candidates and proportional representation, it’s not as big a deal as it could have been, but still a BFD….
