Stacey Abrams gives up her efforts in the Georgia Governors election…

Abrams knows that the number of votes contested was less than margin needed for a runoff or recount…

It appears that former Georgia Sec of State  Brian Kemp (R) has maneuvered an unimpressive win to become Governor….

That things turned out even as close as it had against reported voter suppression efforts by Republicans is something Abrams should be proud of….

She has NOT conceded the contested vote….

She has pledged to lead an effort against the voter suppression action that occurred this year in the state…

Democrat Stacey Abrams announced Friday that Brian Kemp, her Republican opponent in the Georgia gubernatorial race, would be certified as governor.

“I acknowledge that former Secretary of State Brian Kemp will be certified as the victor in the 2018 gubernatorial election,” Abrams said at a press conference Friday, effectively conceding that she lost the race.

The announcement comes more than a week after the November midterm elections when Kemp came out as the top vote-getter in the race. But Abrams refused to concede, arguing that there were outstanding votes that needed to be counted. Since then her campaign has filed legal challenges and pushed to have additional absentee and provisional ballots counted.

That move lowered the margin of victory for Kemp but not by enough to trigger a runoff or recount…..

Even in acknowledging defeat, Abrams insisted her speech was not a speech of concession and offered sharp criticisms of Kemp.
“So let’s be clear — this is not a speech of concession, because concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true or proper,” she said. “As a woman of conscience and faith, I cannot concede that. But, my assessment is the law currently allows no further viable remedy. Now, I can certainly bring a new case to keep this one contest alive, but I don’t want to hold public office if I need to scheme my way into the post. Because the title of governor isn’t nearly as important as our shared title — voters. And that is why we fight on.”
Abrams had previously described Kemp as an “architect of voter suppression” and in her remarks said he had purposefully made the process a “gut-wrenching hardship” for many in Georgia.
“Under the watch of the now former secretary of state, democracy failed Georgia,” Abrams said of Kemp, who served as the state’s chief elections officer for nearly a decade before resigning after overseeing his own contest.
“Make no mistake, the former secretary of state was deliberate and intentional in his actions,” Abrams said. “I know that eight years of systemic disenfranchisement, disinvestment and incompetence had its desired affect on the electoral process in Georgia.”
Earlier in the day, Abrams’ campaign launched a digital ad that asked voters to share their stories of trouble at the polls….
