Just a little review…..
Brett Kavanaugh is a US Federal Judge…
He’s a person like us all….
Right now?
He’s been on the bench for over a decade…
Had several FBI background checks and worked for the Justice Department…
But?
In this weeks US Senate confirmation hearings?
He sure didn’t sound and act like a local, state or federal judge…
Certainly not a guy up for spot on the nation’s highest court….
Angry….
Defiant….
Sneering….
And political….
He is dealing with being accused by at least FOUR women of sexual miscount back in the day…
Now instead of going along with letting the FBI check out the accusations against him?
He seems to have stretched the truth in speaking to members of the US Senate Judiciary Committee….
He has gone after his accuser in an unlikely judge’s manner…
He has NOPT looked like a man who should be passing judgement over others and certainly sounds intolerant to efforts to find the truth even if it’s unpleasant ….
And this has knocked his numbers among the public which does NOT get a chance to vote on his job application…
I understand Trump was told to pick someone else…
I see why…..

Apparently you accept the idea of a “neutral, detached jurist.”
Any lawyer will tell you what a crock that is.
Keith2018 says
I agree Jack, no one is neutral in that sense of the word. But shouldn’t we seek a Judge who isn’t a political hack (see the Starr investigation) and who cries at the drop of a hat? Kavanaugh is unhinged and vindictive. He’s emotionally unsuited to sit on that Court.,
jamesb says
Jack…You mean Judges ARE POLITICAL?
My Name Is Jack says
Big winner from this Kavanaugh brouhaha?
Lindsay Graham
Graham ,often described as a “liberal” by conservatives in S.C. is now being hailed as a hero .He was already being looked upon more kindly by many of these types due to his dropping his former “neverTrumper” persona and essentially joining the cult.
In 2014,Lindsay received an unimpressive 56% Of the vote against seven nobodies. With his new Right Wing act he will likely be a shoo in in 2020 unless the Cult leader decides that Lindsay’s kissing of the ring is sufficient obeisance to merit the AG position when Beau Sessions bites the dust.
jamesb says
Are you talking about the Lindsaay Graham who worked for compromises with Democrats on such things as Immigration?
Keith2018 says
Not sure your point James, immigration reform used to be a conservative proposal.
Lindsay has gone over to the dark side, the Steven Miller and Trump side. He won’t be running for re-election, because he will be in Trump’ Cabinet.
jamesb says
Lindsey,Rubio, Schumer and others (gang of seven) worked TOGETHER on immigration reform before Trump turned GOPer’s to the Dark Side
My Name Is Jack says
Once again ,living in the past.
What does any of this have to do with the here and now?
Let me answer for you,James…
Not a damn thing.
Lindsay Graham circa 2018?In the Cult!
scott says
Our supposed “Never Trumper” on this site was absolutely giddy over Graham’s histrionic audition to be the Cult Leader’s next AG on Thursday.
Shows you how hollow that movement is.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes,I’ve been saying for awhile that, despite the various posts here about different Republicans who occasionally issue anti Trump public statements ,they’re not a significant part of the now Trump Party.
Several ,indeed ,have literally found a new career writing books and appearing on tv as “anti Trump Republicans”(see for instance Rick Wilson, prior to Trump essentially aFlorida political operative ,now elevated to national status ,and regional talk show hosts Charlie Sykes and John Ziegler).
Keith2018 says
When did that bill pass Congress James? I must have missed that!? And, why is this relevant now?
jamesb says
I believe it didb’t
I believe it’s in the 2nd one the House just passed?
Keith2018 says
Are you intentionally being obtuse?
The point was referencing something that the Republicans have now repudiated isn’t evidence that they are compromising on anything.
jamesb says
Are u saying that GOPer’s lie like their party leader Keith????
I’d say THAT applies to a good many Republican lawmakers….
Yes….
My Name Is Jack says
James ,for reasons unknown, feels some weird duty to defend Republicans when any of us offer criticism of them.
As we have both pointed out his “defense” is nothing but irrelevant “whataboutisms.”
Much of this is,in my view, due to his refusal to accept what the Republican Party has become.See for instance his statement that Trump has turned Republicans to the “dark side.”
Trump isn’t the cause of anything. He is simply a logical consequence of where the Republican Party has been heading for years.James, on the contrary, seems to view the Republican Party as a mildly conservative group which has been hostilely taken over by Trump, thus we are often treated to his sometimes hilarious efforts to “prove” that most Republicans “really” don’t support Trump ,that his approval ratings are in a precipitous decline ,and that ,if he would just exit the stage ,Republicans would abandon this phase of their existence as some kind of “bad dream” and cheerfully become born again “compromisers” eager to do business with their Democratic counterparts.
All of to which I respond,
Horse manure.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
There are many books showing how the GOP has been moving unidirectionally to the Right since 1964 (Goldwater & the Civil Rights Act), 1968 (the Southern Strategy), 1973 (Watergate, Roe v. Wade & The Moral Majority), 1980 (Reagan’s nomination) and/or 2010 (the Tea Party), for example How the Right Lost Its Mind (2017) by Charles Sykes.
At each point, successive groups of relatively moderate Republicans felt squeezed out, so that the Republican Party of 2018 looks almost nothing like that of 1963 — more like the Dixiecrats of 1963 or the McCarthyites of 1953.
But Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 primaries did mark a very sharp, abrupt lurch to the Right, and to the party’s base rather than its leaders and former donors.

Quebec elects CAQ majority government, Liberals see historic losses
Liberals knocked out of power by François Legault’s party, Parti Québécois leader resigns
Benjamin Shingler · CBC News ·

Coalition Avenir [Future] Québec, a right-of-centre party that has never held power, will form a majority government in Quebec, dealing a historic blow to the incumbent Liberals, according to a CBC News projection.
“We did it!” CAQ candidate Geneviève Guilbault exclaimed, beaming, as news of the majority was broadcast on a giant screen behind her at the party’s Quebec City headquarters, only half an hour after polls closed.
“This is finally happening, this big change for all Quebecers,” said Guilbault, who may become deputy premier under CAQ Leader François Legault.
The election also saw major losses for the pro-independence Parti Québécois at the hands of another emerging party, Québec Solidaire. The PQ’s leader, Jean-François Lisée, resigned in his concession speech.
RESULTSGet live results from your riding and across Quebec
The CAQ, which promises to lower taxes, privatize some aspects of the health-care system and cut the number of immigrants, capitalized on an appetite for change among Quebec voters.
The Liberals had held power for the past 15 years, with the exception of a brief PQ minority government.
Founded in 2011, the CAQ was the favourite heading into the campaign, though Legault stumbled badly at times, particularly when pressed to explain his party’s immigration policy.
But he regained momentum in the final week of the campaign, much of which he spent in the regions outside Montreal, where he enjoys broad support among key francophone voters….

Amazing how so many things Trump either says or does is excused with the Clinton card. Just like the old days.
But I never recall Michelle Obama complaining about being the most bullied woman in the World, or Barack Obama inviting someone who used the word “motherfucker” into a media event in the Oval Office. Do you?
Oh but someone used the “N” word in front of Obama and that was “horrific.” Not horrific enough for the ordinary racists in the Republican Party to stop, but they’re entitled white boys. You know the kind that work at the White House and keep flashing the white power symbol.
The relentless “whataboutism” to excuse this Administration is getting old, very old. It’s still amazing why someone who “isn’t very much a Republican” would spend so much time defending the Trump Party.
