Hold on to your horses!….
A new poll out on the Texas US Senate race has Democrat Beto O’Rourke ONE percentage point behind Republican Senator Ted Cruz…..
ONE PERCENTAGE POINT?
Yup….
I still think Ted Cruz will pull this out…
This IS Red State Texas….
But if the movement IS to Democrat O’Rourke?
And he isn’t cresting too soon?
The US Senate just could be in reach for Democrats come next yearn the back of a House ‘wave’….
And I’m be damn happy to be wrong on this race….
Sen. Ted Cruz (R) leads his Democratic challenger, Rep. Beto O’Rourke, by just 1 point in their Texas Senate race, well within the margin of error of a new poll from Emerson College.
The survey, which was released on Monday, found that Cruz leads O’Rourke 38 to 37 percent. Four percent of voters favor a different candidate and 21 percent remain undecided.
The survey comes as O’Rourke continues to gain momentum in his quest to unseat Cruz.
While Texas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate in three decades, polls continue to show that the race between O’Rourke and Cruz will be tight. Just last week, a new NBC News–Marist survey found that Cruz led O’Rourke by 4 points.
In addition, the Cook Political Report shifted the race from its “likely Republican” column to “lean Republican” earlier this month.
Emerson College notes that O’Rourke is a popular candidate, which could spell trouble for Cruz. According to the survey, the three-term congressman is viewed favorably by 37 percent of registered voters.
O’Rourke leads Cruz among voters in the 18–34 and 35–54 age range….

More on Ted Cruz running scared….
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), “during a lunch with colleagues last week in Washington passed the hat for campaign cash, as the Texas Republican’s anxiety mounts about the unusually brisk challenge from Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D),” the Washington Examiner reports.
“O’Rourke is raising money by the truckload — enough to compete in Texas, a big state with costly media markets. The development has forced Cruz to hunt for resources in unlikely places for a politician who built his national career on opposition to the party establishment: fellow lawmakers, political action committees, and wealthy Republican donors.”
Said one GOP operative: “He was pretty intense last week and he should be — he needs the dough.”

I still look for Cruz to win fairly comfortably, between say 7-12 points.

I think Cruz pulls it out also….
But I sure wouldn’t mind being wrong….

More alarm about Cruz in Texas….
Republicans are sounding the alarm about Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s closer-than-expected reelection contest, with an influential conservative group racing to his aid.
The Club for Growth, a Washington-based anti-tax group, is drawing up plans for a major TV ad campaign boosting Cruz — the first such intervention by a Republican outside group in this race. The move comes as Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke, an online fundraising behemoth who has attracted national support, continues to narrow the gap in polling….

The mud slinging has begun…
But is being countered down in the Texas US Senate race….
A Texas Republican Party tweet recalling Democratic Senate hopeful Beto O’Rourke’s past arrests has triggered a partisan mugshot melee online.
The state GOP was chiding O’Rourke for failing to yet settle on dates for a series of debates with Republican incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz when it tweeted an O’Rourke photo on Tuesday night that appeared to be a mugshot from a previous arrest.
Some users responded by posting mugshots of Republican former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who was indicted in 2014 on abuse of power charges that were subsequently dismissed by the state Supreme Court.
Others offered the mugshot of Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is awaiting trial on securities fraud charges even amid what’s expected to be an easy re-election campaign.
O’Rourke was arrested in his native El Paso in 1995, but misdemeanor burglary charges were later dropped. In 1998, he was arrested there again, this time for driving while intoxicated. That case was dismissed when O’Rourke attended driver classes.
Word of the arrests isn’t new….

It sure seems to me that both parties could find candidates without all these criminal “charges” in their past.
The vast majority of the people in this country live their lives without ever being charged with a criminal offense?
It just seems odd to me that we increasingly hear of political candidates with such matters in their past.
Weird in my view.

People with trouble with the law in their past get elected to office all the time…

Gee I didn’t know that.
