Thus seeking an end to a story that frankly has gotten WTF off the hook….
The guy is being investigated by several inside and out agencies for things that should have gotten him gone a long time ago, or even indicted…
Why he lasted this long is explained in terms that defy common sense…
He has been a prime example for what a cabinet secretary should NOT be doing….
EPA chief Scott Pruitt resigned on Thursday, finally bowing to a torrent of spending, travel, access and secrecy scandals that brought down one of the most aggressive enforcers of President Donald Trump’s anti-regulation agenda.
Pruitt faced more than a dozen ongoing ethics probes from EPA’s inspector general, the House Oversight Committee, the White House, the Government Accountability Office and the Oklahoma Bar Association. He faced scrutiny over everything from his lease of a Capitol Hill condo for $50 a night from the wife of an energy lobbyist who simultaneously met with Pruitt about EPA business, his extensive use of first-class air travel and his extensive connections and ties to the industries he regulates. (See a running summary of Pruitt’s controversies here.)
President Donald Trump announced Pruitt’s exit, saying on Twitter “I have accepted the resignation of Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. Within the Agency Scott has done an outstanding job, and I will always be thankful to him for this.”
Pruitt’s deputy, Andrew Wheeler, will become acting administrator of the EPA. Wheeler is a former coal lobbyist with deep ties to Washington and is expected to pursue a similar deregulatory agenda….

I wouldn’t be surprised ….

Here’s a link to the list of mid/senior level Trump staff people that have exited….
The number is up to 38….

Anyone who believes that Pruitt’s exit means much of anything as to the years old Republican war on the EPA is naive.
Indeed, I would expect that Pruitts successor will be as rabidly anti EPA as he was but without the super egotism that did Pruitt in.

I think the EPA policy was the side show
Pruitt’s antics where the focus of the media
The staff wasn’t happy and leaked on him which finally pushed him to quit….
I would sssume most the probes will close with Pruitt’s departure….
The EPA. Is sure to remain under s microscope for a while

Maybe it was a”sideshow” to you,but it wasn’t to me and lots of others who are very concerned about loosening environmental rules and offshore oil drilling .
Pruitt was the central figure in all that.
Indeed, offshore drilling is a major issue here in S.C. and has united Democrats and Republicans in opposition.
Sure Pruitt’s personal issues were the factor in his fall but now that he’s gone, the same issues are still there.
jamesb says
No doubt Jack….
But his ACTIONS besides the policy got him gone….
The media ALWAYS fronts the that which is ‘different and personal’….
We hear little to nothing about all else…
Major Policy actions included….

Former EPA administrator Scott Pruitt heads back to Oklahoma, but that may be temporary. But even with the bad publicity, Pruitt, 50, has widely been considered a potential candidate for either governor or U.S. Senate.
Somebody here hinted at this….
jamesb says
Turns out that Pruitt didn’t just decide to do the right thing and quit on his own…..
Bloomberg is reporting the knucklehead got a call from Chief of Staff Kelly with the message that it was time to leave….
Trump had finally had enough….
jamesb says
The guy taking over for Pruitt may have trouble getting confirmed….
…“Elevating former coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler to head the EPA is only trading one fossil fuel friend for another,” said Sen. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass. “We must continue to fight the fossil-fuel entrenched interests that have gripped the EPA and want to undermine the public’s health and progress on climate action.”…

My favorite quote of the day is from anti Trump Republican Rick Wilson…
“Pruitt wasn’t even that good at being corrupt…”
jamesb says
The Politicalwire Daily Beast piece on Jack’s pointing to the quote of the day….
….Rick Wilson: “Donald Trump is unequivocal proof that A’s hire B’s and B’s hire C’s, and Trump hires people without the judgment, qualifications, ethical foundations, and moral stature to run an underground bum-fighting operation. Scott Pruitt’s obvious money problems should have screamed out in any background check, to say nothing of a Senate confirmation hearing.”
“Pruitt is a man, like so many of Trump’s claque of low-rent hoodlums, bus-station conmen, edge-case dead-enders, and caged-immigrant child porn aficionados, utterly unsuited to a role of public trust and responsibility.”
”Pruitt wasn’t even that good at being corrupt. If you’re going to act like a local warlord extorting a little extra poppy from the local tribesmen, you’ve got to go big; petty corruption is harder to excuse than bold, piratical plundering of the public exchequer. At least Donald, Jared, and the Trump Boys aren’t hiding the fact they want to cash out with a dollar figure where the preface on the -illions is a b-, not an m-.”
