Attorney General Sessions goes back and forth on enforcing marijuana law, that still has it listed as dangerous drug….
Some in Congress are pushing to change the law….
Donald Trump said today he’s for changing the law….
Maybe….
The guy does change his mind …..
We’ll see how this goes….
“I support Sen. Gardner,” Trump said when asked about the bill. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes.”
The legislative proposal, which is also championed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), would reshape the legal landscape for marijuana if it becomes law.
California and eight other states, as well as Washington, D.C., have legalized all adult use of marijuana. An additional 20 states permit marijuana for medical use.
But even as states legalize, marijuana has remained a risky and unstable business because of federal law making it illegal. Concerns about federal law enforcement seizures have inhibited most lenders from working with marijuana businesses. And investors have also proceeded cautiously.
“If you are in the marijuana business … you can’t get a bank loan or set up a bank account because of concern over the conflict between state and federal law,” Gardner said at a news conference Thursday to unveil the new bill. “We need to fix this. It is time we take this industry out of the shadows, bring these dollars out of the shadows.”
He called it a “public hypocrisy” that the firms are expected to pay taxes yet are barred from participation in the financial system.
A lifting of the federal prohibition also would bolster efforts to create uniform testing and regulatory standards for marijuana, and potentially free scientists to pursue research into the medical uses of marijuana.
Trump’s support could potentially have a major impact, providing political cover for Republicans who worry about being tagged as soft on drugs. Still, the proposal faces a tough road in Congress….

The Texan made another appearance here last night. I suspect that James will delete the Texan’s posts – as he has in the past. Thd Texan remains an angry man and does not appear to have much affection for James, alrhough his weird comments left me wondering if he might see James as someone who can relieve his tension.

Long, long overdue for removing pot as a schedule 1 drug. On of the sessions I attended at the conference in Florida was by a doctor who talked about how opioid abuse is lower in states that have legalized pot. Insurance carriers cannot prescribe medical marijuana, so they are forced to prescribe opioids. This is costly to insurance carriers because many people become addicted to the opioids.

In my view, marijuana legalization is following a similar track as gay marriage.
Resistance is gradually weakening, even among conservatives, who seem to be responding to a States Rights argument.Poll numbers show a steady rise in support.Despite Sessions talk, federal prosecutors aren’t bringing any cases forward.
In my part time gig as a misdemeanor Prosecutor locally here in S.C.,I offer Simple Possession offenders the opportunity to perform ten hours of community service in exchange for case dismissals.Ive found similar dispositions among my fellow prosecutors .And,of course, SC is a very conservative State.

Today President Trump May Have Put The Libertarian Party Out Of Business AND Locked Up The Millennial Vote For 2020
Today, President Trump weighed, unscripted, into another hot-button issue. Legal pot, licit ganja.
Even though marijuana remains a Schedule 1 narcotic, it is legal in some form in most states. In nine states, it is permitted for recreational use. States were permitted to do this under the authority of what was known as the Cole Memorandum, a DOJ memo, which did for weed what the Napolitano Memo did for illegal aliens. Based on the fiction of “prosecutorial discretion” the Obama administration did an end run around Congress. While marijuana laws were on the books, DOJ was told not to enforce them. Like any other policy pulled out of one’s butt, it was subject to the vagaries of political fortune. One of the first things Jeff Sessions did upon becoming Attorney General and discovering real crime had vanished and law enforcement and prosecutors were literally dying of boredom was to rescind that memo.
In a press encounter today, President Trump said that he would sign a bill changing the status of marijuana should it reach his desk….
Red State…

Attorney General Jeff Sessions told The Hill that President Trump hasn’t talked to him about legislation to decriminalize federal marijuana laws, but that he believed the president would support legislation to protect states that do so.
In an exclusive interview with The Hill’s new TV show “Rising,” which aired Thursday morning, Sessions said he understood remarks from Trump last week to be supportive of such protections.
“What I understood the president to have told Senator Cory Gardner was that if a state legalizes marijuana, he may be supportive of legislation that would honor that state’s decision,” the former Alabama senator said.
President Trump said last week that he would “probably” back a bipartisan bill that could let states determine their own marijuana laws and prevent the federal government from getting involved…
