Hiring Rudy Giualiani is also about politics , not legal efforts….
The Mueller team is NOT about politics at all and with that is handicapped in responses to Trump efforts to undercut their investigation of his actions and others….
A year into the special counsel investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 elections, a slight majority of Americans thinks the investigation is politically motivated. Fifty-three percent say so, while 44 percent think the investigation is justified.
Nevertheless, three in four Americans still think President Trump should cooperate if he is asked to be interviewed as part of the Russia investigation, though this is a smaller proportion than thought so at the beginning of the year. In January, 84 percent said that Mr. Trump should cooperate, now 76 percent do.
The shift reveals a hardening stance among Republicans, who are now even more critical of the investigation. While a large majority of Republicans has always seen the investigation as politically motivated, the percentage that thinks so has risen seven points since December. There is an even larger shift when it comes to whether Republicans think Mr. Trump should cooperate with the special counsel. In January, 73 percent said he should cooperate, but now just 53 percent do….

A new Economist/YouGov poll finds that 61% of Republicans think President Trump is being framed by the FBI and Justice Department, while just 17% said he is not and 21% said they are not sure.
Overall, just 29% said Trump is being set up by the law enforcement agencies, compared to 45% who said he is not being framed and 26% who are not sure….
Politicalwire…

Good news for Trump I would say.
From his point of view 83% of Republicans either actually believe he is being framed or at least are willing to believe he might be.
And among all 55% share those views.
As I stated in a post awhile back,it is time for Mueller to wrap this thing up.People don’t like these interminable investigations(see Ken Starr).
Contrary to James and his “drip, drip” routine ,most people want to see the beef. When you’re investigating the head of the US government it is much different from just a regular investigation.
Rightly or wrongly, the public expects things to move swiftly.True, that’s not the way criminal investigations usually proceed ,but that’s the reality of public opinion.
No one cares about Paul Manafort and these unknown Russians and Ukrainians. They were told that this was about Russian collusion by Trump .
If Mueller has anything,he needs to show his cards and soon or he needs to make a report as to his findings and wrap this thing up.
jamesb says
Mueller’s investigation could last well past the midterm elections….
I’d say it’s going NOWHERE fast…..
AS has been said countless times in the media….
Mueller knows a LOT more than anyone thinks….
The leads seem to be springing up like weeds….
You sound like part of Giuliani effort on this….
How strange?
jamesb says
Further thought?
The longer Mueller goes?
The more people will accept and down play some of the misdeeds the Trump people are shown to have done….
Unlike Democrats?
Republicans don’t get all excited when illegal stuff shows up
And they don’t quit like the Dem’s do
My Name Is Jack says
Funny…
After claiming that I sound like Giuliani ,you essentially concede the political point I was making.
There is adifference between the legal and political you know.
My point is that politically, not legally, the longer this investigation continues the more Trump and his cohorts efforts to paint it as some kind of witchunt gain traction among the public.
As I stated above this might not seem right but the past is replete with examples where the public tires of these lengthy investigations.
None of this has anything to do with whether or not Trump committed possible criminal acts.It has to do with the public’s appetite for Mueller continuing probe.
jamesb says
I did agree that Trump is winning the political side of this…
I as most Democrats do not care how long it takes
My Name Is Jack says
Well the political side of this is what I’m interested in.
Look, Trump isn’t going to be impeached and convicted, even if Mueller shows that he was somehow involved with Russia.
If you are naive enough to believe that the Republicans in the Senate would ever vote to convict and remove him from office (assuming a Democratic House would even vote to impeach him ) then you are a bigger joke that I think you are.
I want to see Trump defeated and that is going to happen,if it does, in the political realm.
Yes ,I know all about the various debates about whether or not a sitting President can be indicted and tried.Thats a purely academic exercise as far as I am concerned .In my view, it’s not going to happen and ,even if he was indicted ,he could fight it in the courts for years (and likely such would serve to rally the faithful more that they are presently).
This continuing “drip, drip,” as you call it ,may give you and others some psychic satisfaction, but the longer it goes on ,and particularly if it continues to focus on peripheral persons of no importance to most people, the more many are going to see it as at least an “harassment” of Trump.
We all should be astounded actually that 55% ,according to this poll,of the public ,either believe ,or at least think it is a real possibility that Trump is being”framed,” not merely harassed but that all this is simply not true.
That is really disturbing.

My hope is as i have stated before…..
The damage inflected by Mueller’s reports and throwdown of the truth that Donald Trump & Co have tried to hide from the American people will force him to abdicate the throne….
Furthermore ?
It IS my hope the sheer size of the Republican House defeat in November also acts a shove to to get him to quit….
You hope seems to be that Donald Trump will give everyone the ‘finger’ and continue on?
My Name Is Jack says
Where have I said I “ hope” any such thing.
Another example of when you are unable to ,with any degree of knowledge or logic, argue a point you disagree with you resort to hyperbolic nonsense.
Fortunately ,the other posters here understand what Im saying ,even if they disagree with me ,and will readily acknowledge that I am in no way “ hoping” anything good about Donald Trump.
Indeed, the whole thrust of my point is that I want to see Trump defeated ,but simply don’t see the Mueller investigation as it drags out being the engine for such.
Meanwhile you are left “ hoping” that somehow it will convince this egomaniac to simply awake one day and quit or be so shattered by a massive Republican loss in November ( far from a sure thing) that he will pack it in.
Daydreaming is fun,isn’t it James?
jamesb says
Explain then how YOU would see Trump defeated?
You path to that?
My Name Is Jack says
An election…you know the one in 2020?
What a dumb question.
jamesb says
If he makes it in office that long…..
My Name Is Jack says
Yes we all know of your “hope.”
I try to deal in reality.
jamesb says
REALLY?
My Name Is Jack says
Yes, really James..
You see James “hoping” that a President may simply quit is well not very realistic. It has only happened once in our history.
Then again I’m not sure you actually know this.
However you do “know your stuff”(self proclaimed)
And ,well, all I can say to that is,uh,
Really?
jamesb says
Trump got over a year and a half ago….
We’ll see what he does when his ‘secrets’ see the day of light….
Yea…My hope is his ass is gone before election day 2020….
Save the country the expense and trouble…
