Hmmmmm?
What is going on here?
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) told ABC News that he sees “no evidence” to support claims that the FBI used an informant to gather information on the Trump campaign, but that instead the federal probe was focused on “individuals with a history of links to Russia that were concerning.”
Politicalwire….
Sen. Marco Rubio said Sunday he is deeply skeptical North Korea would actually give up its nuclear weapons, adding Pyongyang is going to try to leverage talks with the U.S. to try to receive as much sanctions relief as possible without endangering its arsenal….

Another Rubio challange against his party leader……
A potential bill to prohibit ZTE Corp. and other Chinese telecommunications companies from operating in the U.S. would have supermajority support in Congress, Republican Senator Marco Rubio said…..

So far these things seem to not have caught Trump’s attention….
But?….For how long?
My Name Is Jack says
Rubios office will get a bunch of calls from Republicans bitching about his criticism of Trump and he will announce that his comments were taken out of context.
How many times do we have to watch this scene?
Keith says
I assume many times Jack, but it always ends the same way. Rubio caves like a lawn chair. How many times has he hinted he would vote against Trump and then “changed” his mind and voted with all the other Republicans to support their President?
And, while we are on the topic. Let’s talk about brave Jeff Flake. He has voted with the Trump agenda over 90% of the time. Tell me how he can challenge Trump when he supports his President’s agenda on almost every issue?
The latest poll out says that almost half of the self-identified Republican voters believe that over five million people voted illegally in the last election. I wonder who has been telling them that, and I wonder what color they think those voters might be??
Zreebs says
Flake is a long shot no doubt, and the issues to run on are not obvious (maybe the deficit or free trade?). He will still need Trump supporters so he will have to go light on personal attacks – which will be a challenge. He will need to skillfully attack the notion that Trump makes
“Good deals”.
Who knows? I might vote for him in a the GOP primary. At least I don’t think our democracy is at stake if Flake wins.
My Name Is Jack says
You would vote in a Republican primary just to vote for Flake ,Zreebs?
I presume instead of voting in the Democratic Primary?
In some of your posts you are verbally tougher on the Republicans than me.Thats really odd.
Zreebs says
Jack,
Actually, I have done this before. In 1996, I lived in a very conservative district in which the only real races were the Republican primary. So I voted in the Republican primary for the least offensive, and that included voting for Bob Dole over Buchanan. But in the general election, I voted Democratic for a majority of the races – including for Bill Clinton.
In 2020, I would vote in the GOP primary to vote against Trump. Why would you assume that means I would vote for the Republican in the general election?
My Name Is Jack says
I just assumed that you would be more interested in who the Democratic candidate was than the Republican whom ,based on what you are saying, you are likely not going to vote for anyway.
Now, if you are more interested in state and local races then I would understand that.
Like I said, I really don’t see what difference it makes Who the Republicans nominate but that’s just me…
To each his own.
Zreebs says
I’m pretty sure that the state and local elections in NJ are in odd years – rather than even, so that is not the reason.
If there is a Democratic presidential candidate that I strongly prefer over the others – and the race is close, then of course I may vote in the Democratic primary. At this point, I would prefer that the Democratic candidate not be Biden, Booker or Sanders – even though Keith and James actually have the effect of increasing my sympathy for Sanders with what I feel are unreasonable attacks. Not that either of them cares.
Zreebs says
When you say I am “verbally tougher”, is that because I have said that “Republicans are evil”? If that is the primary reason, you yourself admitted that racism was a big driver of why people are Republicans in the south. Is that not a form of evil, and if not, why not? If I am also verbally tougher in other areas too, what have I said that you disagree with?
CG says
Zreebs ultimately voting for the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in New Jersey is about as likely as Donald Trump publicly apologizing to someone.
Zreebs says
New Jersey Republican candidates are usually moderate relative to Republicans elsewhere. A Republican who shows a willingness to sometimes stand up to the GOP leadership will certainly be more beneficial to the liberal cause than a corrupt Democratic senator. By the way, I don’t think NJ has elected a Republican senator since 1972 (Clifford Case) – and he was downright liberal.
My Name Is Jack says
I couldn’t care less whether the Republican nominee is Trump,Pence, Kasich ,Flake or anyone else I can think of.
I wouldn’t vote for any of them myself.
There is very little difference between any of them on any issue I care about. As Keith points out there is no fundamental difference between Flake and Trump.Flake isn’t on Twitter and talks more “normally.”Well, maybe that’s something in this crazy atmosphere that the Republican Party has created, but how much does that really matter?
Indeed ,we know where all these Republicans stand on all the major issues:more tax cuts for the wealthy, ever increasing deficits(while mouthing off about “fiscal conservatism”),huge increases in military spending, inane saber rattling in foreign affairs, turning health care over to the tender mercies of the “market,”constant attacks on the environment, cutting regulations on big banks and big businesses(because they do such a good job of regulating themselves),etc.
The bottom line?Trump,Pence, Flake ,Kasich ,Rubio, Cruz, or almost anyone else whose name you can fill in,with slight variations ,the above is what you’re going to get.
Zreebs says
The political ideologies and values may be similar, but the personal characteristics of those candidates are not the same. At least half of those candidates do not admire dictators, and only one that I know of would threaten their political opponent with jail. I see Trump as undermining democracy itself and I am not joking. At least Flake and Kasich would not undermine democracy.
What a pathetically low standard, but that is the GOP today.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Hindenburg over Hitler (and, in passing, Thaelmann) any day.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_presidential_election,_1932
¶ Jack’s catalogue of agreement among leading Republicans omitted the social issue (abortion, euthanasia, marriage equality, cross-gender rights, religious education, church autonomy, judicial appointments, etc.).
There are significant differences between some of the GOP candidates on individual items in the Moral Majority/Traditional Values Coalition agenda, just as they differ significantly on trade (and in some cases, immigration), but taken as a whole the social issues programme of any of them would closely mirror that of (and please) the religious-reactionary movement.
Zreebs says
Dave, And all of those issues are important – as is guns, and I am willing to bet we agree almost completely on every one of those social issues. Why don’t you become a citizen so you could vote? The Democrats could use your support.
