It is reported that the American President did NOT raise ANY questions about the 2016 American election, that had come out to how the Russian President wanted it to, with what appears o be Putin’s help……Nor did he mention ANY THING about the reports of Russian efforts to harm some of its ex-nationals who moved to the West…..
Trump was advised by members of his National Security team to NOT pat Putin ‘on the back ‘for his lopsided victory….
Trump did NOT listen to anyone’s advice, giving the excuse that he did NOT actually receive any advice….
One could wonder what does Vladimir Putin have on Donald Trump that has him so consumed about disregarding ALL advice to keep Putin at arms length as an adversary ….
President Trump called on Tuesday to congratulate President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia on his re-election, but did not raise with him the lopsided nature of his victory, Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election or Moscow’s role in a nerve agent attackon a former Russian spy and his daughter living in Britain.
Instead, Mr. Trump kept the focus of the call on what the White House said were “shared interests” — among them, North Korea and Ukraine — overruling his national security advisers, who had urged him to raise Russia’s recent behavior.
“We had a very good call,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, where he had just welcomed Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia. “We will probably be meeting in the not-too-distant future.”
The president’s upbeat characterization came five days after his administration imposed sanctions on Russia for its interference in the election and for other “malicious cyberattacks,” the most significant action it has taken against Moscow since Mr. Trump took office. The United States also joined Britain, France and Germany in denouncing the Russian government for violating international law for the attack on the spy, Sergei V. Skripal, and his daughter Yulia.
Both actions highlighted a contradiction at the heart of the Trump presidency: the administration’s steadily tougher stance toward Russia and Mr. Trump’s own stubborn reluctance to criticize Mr. Putin….
President Trump is coming under intense criticism for declining to press Russian President Vladimir Putin about the fairness of Russia’s presidential election and the poisoning of a former Russian double agent living in England, an incident the United Kingdom blamed on Moscow.
Trump phoned Putin on Tuesday to congratulate him for winning a fourth term and to discuss a possible summit meeting. But Washington seized on the topics that were not discussed, which include Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said the president “insulted” the people of Russia by congratulating Putin for winning an election whose result was never in question.
“An American president does not lead the Free World by congratulating dictators on winning sham elections,” said McCain, a frequent critic of Trump who has pressed him to take a more aggressive approach toward the Kremlin.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Trump can “call whomever he chooses,” but added that phoning Putin “wouldn’t have been high on my list.” …
Shortly after the absolutely unsurprising re-election of Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump was given explicit instructions in his daily briefing materials to avoid congratulating his counterpart.
But despite the all-caps notation reading “DO NOT CONGRATULATE,” Trump did so anyway, according to a report Tuesday by The Washington Post.
According to a White House statement, “President Trump congratulated President Putin on his March 18 re-election, and emphasized the importance of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula. The two leaders confirmed the need for the United States and Russia to continue our shared efforts on strategic stability.”
“We had a very good call,” Trump told reporters at the White House after the exchange, noting that the pair “will probably be meeting in the not-too distant future to discuss the arms race, which is getting out of control.”…
