The aftermath of the 2010 Republican ‘wave’ election knocked Democrats out of state legislative offices across the country….
For 2018?
Democrats are fielding more canidates they have for years…..
They are trying to have a possible ‘wave’ extend down to the state and local races….
They will have their work cut out for them , though….
It’s NOT a Presidential election year, which means there will be less voters going to the polls…
But then there is Donald Trump , eh?
Everyone’ is talking about whether Democrats can take control of the U.S. House of Representatives and about the record number of candidates running for the 435 House seats up for election this fall.
Less noticed is the same phenomenon at the state level. In November, 6,066 state legislative seats are up for grabs, and more candidates — particularly on the Democratic side — are running for state legislative seats than have in decades.
Sixteen states have published an official list of 2018 state House candidates. The above figure shows the percentage of state House districts that had at least one Democratic (blue line) or Republican (red line) state House candidate in these states since the 1980s.
Far more candidates are running in 2018 than in recent elections. In fact, more Democrats are running than in any election since 1982. Democrats, for example, ran candidates in fewer than half (82 of 180) Georgia state House districts in 2016, not enough to win a majority, even had all of them won. But in 2018, Democrats are running in 121 districts…..

Of the states I can think of that hold primaries for state & local office this summer, rather than in the spring or winter, most lean Democratic, and would be likely to field at least one Democratic candidate in more seats.
June: California & New Jersey
September: Washington state, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts & Rhode Island.
I’m sure there are fuller and more accurate state-by-state lists and timetables at http://www.Ballotpedia.com, http://www.TheGreenPapers.com and http://en.Wikipedia.org
