Democrats are competitive in six key Senate battlegrounds, but Republicans still hold the edge in the fight for the upper chamber, according to new polling from The New York Times and Siena.
The New York Times/Siena Polls found Democrats leading the Senate races in North Carolina, where Democrat Roy Cooper is battling Republican Michael Whatley to replace retiring Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), and in Maine, where progressive Graham Platner hopes to oust Sen. Susan Collins (R)…..

The polls show a path to victory for Democrats, who need to net four seats to take control of the Senate this fall. The party hopes to capitalize on voter frustration with Trump and the economy, while benefiting from the historical trend of a sitting president’s party losing ground in the midterms.
The New York Times/Siena surveys showed most of the Democratic Senate candidates were running ahead of the party’s brand, which was bruised by 2024 losses. And Democrats were morel likely than Republicans to say they were very likely or almost certain to vote across the six battleground states.
It is also clear that economic concerns are weighing on Trump’s popularity and Republicans in general. Just 36 percent of those polled approved of the president’s handling of cost-of-living issues, while 33 percent approved of his handling of gas prices. Thirty-nine percent backed Trump’s efforts on the Iran war.
Decision Desk HQ’s aggregate shows Democrats with a 4-point advantage on a generic congressional ballot.
At the same time, the surveys confirm that Republicans would be favored to hold the upper chamber if the election were held today, signaling a continued uphill climb for Democrats as November’s elections nears…..
