A Federal Judge had blocked the early Trump 2.0 campaign to force colleges, and K-12 schools to drop Diversity, Equity and Inclusion due to First Amendment worries….
The Trump Justice Dept. was appealing the judges ruling against them….
The Appeal has been dropped….
Several colleges had agrred to the Trump admin efforts, which carried threats of witholding Federal eduaction funds….
But?
After a while?
Schools began to band together to go legal AGAINST the Trump Admin effort….
They just Won….
The Trump administration dropped its appeal of a court decision that blocked the implementation of two memos issued last year, which threatened to pull school funding over certain actions around diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
The appeal upholds a ruling by the federal judge finding the letters violated the First Amendment and cannot be implemented….
…
The letters sent to schools last February said if universities or K-12 institutions did not drop certain DEI measures, federal funding could be taken away, but it did not specify what counted as DEI initiatives.
One letter told universities race could not be used in decisions around admissions, hiring, scholarships and “all other aspects of student, academic, and campus life,” without more clarification.
The department sent a follow-up letter to universities as some were unsure if the guidance applied to student groups based on ethnicity and race.
For K-12 schools, states were asked to sign a certification that they would abide by the memo, with many refusing to do so.
The case was originally brought by the American Federation of Teachers…
….
“And, when people show up and resist, they win. This is a welcome relief and a meaningful win for public education.”….
Note …
This WAS a VERY BIG thing early last year….
Involing Billions in eduction funding….
It has been eclipsed by so many OTHER Trump actions…..
