The Republicans who aren’t as concerned about expiring subsidies argue the impact isn’t as significant as Democrats claim. They point to analysis by Paragon Health Institute, a conservative health care think tank that has been meeting with Republicans on the Hill, that says the enhanced subsidies account for about 3.3 percent of total premium costs.
That has done little to assuage Republicans in some swing House districts who would like to see the subsidies continue. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Penn.) bucked Johnson with his push to force a vote on renewing the subsidies, saying that “my people back home care tremendously” about them, as did Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-Va.), though moderate Republicans appear to now be falling in line.
In July, Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio co-authored a memo warning Republicans that the Affordable Care Act subsidies are broadly popular, including with a majority of Trump voters and swing voters. But in a recent closed-door meeting with House Republicans, Fabrizio did not recommend any extension of the subsidies, instead focusing on how Republicans should prepare to defend against Democrats’ attacks, a GOP aide told POLITICO earlier this month.
The reality is that the impact varies significantly by district and by state — a major challenge to rallying the GOP behind a singular approach.
“Most of these people getting a tax credit live in a congressional district that was won by Republicans or live in a state that was won by President Trump” said Cynthia Cox, a vice president at the health policy research group KFF who tracks impacts of the Affordable Care Act. “In some congressional districts, there are still many more ACA marketplace enrollees than the vote margin in the previous election.”…

The biggest price hike will be felt by middle-class Americans, which is a small percentage of Obamacare enrollees. They will lose their subsidized premium prices altogether because they only qualified for subsidies starting in 2021, when they were boosted during the pandemic. When those expire, the combination of no subsidies plus a nearly 20 percent increase in premium prices will be drastic.
At the extreme end, a 60-year-old couple making $85,000 could see yearly premium payments rise by $22,600 in 2026, according to KFF.
But there will still be a price hike for the rest of the 22 million Obamacare enrollees, nearly half of whom earn under about $25,000 a year as a single adult. For those people, losing the enhanced subsidies will lead to premiums costing about $1,000 more per year….

The backlash has led to hugely popular shows like Hamilton pulling out of potentially lucrative runs, while more than 40 percent of tickets for performances have reportedly gone unsold, The Washington Post reported in October.
Staff have even speculated that the venue has been giving away an increasing number of complimentary tickets in a desperate bid to fill seats.

On Tuesday night, after CBS aired the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony — hosted by President Donald Trump — Trump was focused not on his historic turn as emcee of the event, which took place earlier this month at what he and his allies have renamed the Trump Kennedy Center (a move experts say is illegal).
Instead, Trump was fuming about Stephen Colbert, the CBS late-night show host who, in the final season of “The Late Show” on the network, continues to ridicule the president. Trump urged CBS to pull the plug on Colbert’s show “NOW” instead of ending its run next May.
“Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck, with no talent or anything else necessary for show business success,” Trump wrote in a post at 12:16 a.m. ET on his Truth Social platform. “Now, after being terminated by CBS, but left out to dry, he has actually gotten worse, along with his nonexistent ratings. Stephen is running on hatred and fumes ~ A dead man walking! CBS should, ‘put him to sleep,’ NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!”
Seven minutes later, Trump followed up with this: “Who has the worst Late Night host, CBS, ABC, or NBC??? They all have three things in common: High Salaries, No Talent, REALLY LOW RATINGS!”
Trump also reiterated his call for the U.S. government to revoke TV broadcasters’ licenses. “If Network NEWSCASTS, and their Late Night Shows, are almost 100% Negative to President Donald J. Trump, MAGA, and the Republican Party, shouldn’t their very valuable Broadcast Licenses be terminated? I say, YES!” Then, three minutes after that post, the president shared, “MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!”
The episode of “The Late Show” that CBS aired on Dec. 23 was a rerun, featuring guests Sigourney Weaver and Mandy Patinkin. It originally aired on Dec. 8 — and that night, Colbert took several shots at Trump, including his takeover of the Kennedy Center and his move to seize hosting duties at the Kennedy Center Honors.
“This year’s Kennedy Center Honors ceremony is the very first since Trump installed himself as chair of the Kennedy Center’s board,” Colbert said in his monologue, eliciting boos from the audience. In response, Colbert said, “Yeah, I kind of agree. It seems like the commander-in-chief shouldn’t have enough time to run a theater. ‘Mr. President, Mr. President, Russia has just launched another round of missiles. But first, dress rehearsal for ‘Oklahoma’ is underway, and the blocking is uninspired,’” Colbert joked.
At another point, Colbert admitted, “I don’t know how much effort I’m putting into the impression [of Trump] anymore. And I don’t care… Fire me!”…

Another teacher says he voted for Trump and though supportive of him is nevertheless upset with his attitude.
An independent immigrant from Venezuela who voted for Harris retains an ambivalent attitude toward Trump.
A Marine veteran who considers himself a “ conservative “says the country has improved “ marginally “ under Trump.
The other Black voter is highly critical of Trump.
A young female and self described “ moderate Democrat.” Voted for Harris and remains critical of Trump.

Another story out there today is that the wife of Jill Biden’s first husband, whom she alleged was abusive when they were married over 50 years ago, was found dead after an apparent domestic dispute.
I have no idea what happened and have not delved too much into this story, but of course MAGA people online are blaming Jill Biden.

It sounds like he thinks he might be getting indicted.
He may be as innocent as the driven snow, for all I know, but what I do know is that Donald Trump, Pam Bondi and Kash Patel are certain to seek a some way (however twisted, contrived and unbelievable) to have Walz indicted on federal charges.

Cause they Republicans?
There is a collection of folks, mostly who were on the far-left, but also some from the far-right, who genuinely believe vaccines are deadly and dangerous and that there are all sorts of government conspiracies behind them.
RFK Jr. has been their champion for many years, and until he ran for President (first as a Democrat against Biden), he was still considered a valued member of the party. He was regularly brought in for fundraisers and campaign appearances for Democrats.
Even back in 2021, with all the controversy over the Covid vaccine, some people were telling me here that RFK Jr,. was a harmless and benign Democrat who would never have any real influence and that there was no need for Democrats to distance themselves from him.
