A “lone gunman” carried out the attack and “ambushed” members of the National Guard, said Jeffery Carroll, executive assistant chief with D.C. police.
The person, who was also shot, was taken into custody by other National Guard members and law enforcement and transported to a hospital, Carroll said. He declined to comment on a motive.
D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser called the shooting “targeted.”…

Obviously, this is a horrific act of terrorism in which members of our Armed Forces were targeted. Hopefully, they will survive and recover, the assailant will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and something like this will never happen again.
However, the reality is that the Trump Administration, which is struggling on many fronts, will use the actions of the terrorist to double down on their efforts to scapegoat all immigrants, at least the non-white ones, and attempt to remove them all from America.
When these men (and women) joined the National Guard (doubling as the state militia) in West Virginia, did they foresee this kind of duty with this kind of risk?

The Afghan man alleged to have shot two National Guardsmen near the White House had his asylum approved by the Trump administration earlier this year, according to reports.
The suspect has been identified by multiple law enforcement sources and media outlets as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal. According to CNN, fingerprints matched a man of that name who fled to the U.S. during the Taliban takeover of his homeland in 2021….

The president described Beckstrom, 20, as a “highly respected, young, magnificent person” who was “savagely attacked.”
