Running to the Middle East has NOT changed a thing for Donald Trump & Co.
President’s take the political hit for Govt. Shutdowns…
It will continue for this one ….
OMB Head Vought’s effort to scare Democrats and pass blame is NOT working….
And Yes….
Trump IS going to HAVE TO step in to end this and Obamacare subsidies aren’t going anywhere….
On October 1st, the federal government entered a shutdown due to a deadlock between Republicans and Democrats in Congress that led to a lapse in funding. Two weeks later, there has been little movement toward resolution, with House Speaker Mike Johnson predicting it could be one of the “longest shutdowns in American history.”
Nine in 10 adults think that the federal government shut down is at least a “minor” problem, with half of the public calling it a “major” problem. Democrats tend to be more alarmed about the shutdown with 69% saying it is a major problem compared with 37% of Republicans.
When it comes to casting blame for the shutdown, the public tends to distribute responsibility pretty evenly among the parties. Fifty-eight percent feel Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress hold “a great deal” or “quite a bit” of responsibility for the shutdown. Fifty-four percent place the same responsibility on Congressional Democrats.
About eight in 10 Democrats place responsibility on the president and the Republicans in Congress, while 7 in 10 Republicans say Democrats in Congress are responsible. Independents tend to hold all parties responsible….
Note…
The margin is NOT high….
Actually?
And?
The shutdown has NOT touched most Americans…
But the Democrats ARE actually doing fine with their supporters/voters NOT voting FOR the Spending Bills….
Eh
The Democrats blame the Republicans.
The Republicans blame the Democrats.
And very few people even notice this silliness about a “ shutdown.”
Talk about a non event!
Indeed….
But MORE people BLAME Trump…..
Your obsession with these irrelevant “ polls” and your misunderstanding of the moe( margin of error) is a source of much amusement to me.
Fact is that the history indicates that fascist and Stalinoid dictatorships don’t even need a clear majority; anything between 25% and 45% will do.
We’re not dealing with an ordinary GOPer like the Bushes or Ike or Ford or even Reagan or Nixon (in fact a couple of decades ago, DJT was a Democrat).
And Trump’s people are busily working to twist, corrupt and pervert [small letters] democratic, republican and federalist norms like credible elections and the rule of law. Like Húgo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela (or for that matter, Vladimir Putin), they are systematically trying to destroy every independent check on absolute Presidential power — that includes fair elections available to every citizen. And you don’t need an absolute majority (or even 47%) to do that.
Why Americans hate the Democratic Party.
Jacobin magazine
With President Donald Trump’s approval rating deep under water, and Americans’ views of his handling of the economy over 20 points more negative than they were on inauguration day, a naive observer of US politics might expect the Democrats’ fortunes to be rising.
Nothing of the sort. A recent CNN/SSRS poll from March 2025 found that just 29 percent of Americans hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party. That is the lowest number since SSRS began asking the question in 2002.
This overwhelmingly negative public sentiment toward the Democrats was confirmed by a new study of voters in four Rust Belt states (Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin) conducted by the Center for Working-Class Politics (CWCP), the Labor Institute, and Rutgers University. It found that over 70 percent of Rust Belt voters hold a negative view of the party.
But the CWCP/Labor Institute/Rutgers survey went beyond simply asking respondents how they felt about the party. We wanted to know why so many people dislike the Democratic Party, but we wanted an answer that didn’t simply mirror the preconceptions of pollsters or consultants. So, we did something different. We asked Rust Belt voters a single open-ended prompt: “When you think about the Democratic Party, what comes to mind?”…

Unfortunately it tends to be the guys with the guns win, eh?
As for regime change?
Up to recently?
That WAS the CIA’s ‘normal’ SOP…..
I have company on the polls which give a specific generalised picture of things….
They generally get things Right….
But they ARE only a picture of a statistical group of people at the time the questions are answered, eh?
If the MOE on this poll is correct….
Either people blame BOTH….
Or?
REALLY BLAME Trump and the GOPer’s….
I’d bet that internal polls show even MORE support for Democrats to HOLD THE LINE and THAT HAS to be worrying Blue and Purple state House GOPer’s….
The only polls to the chronically political should be the polls for NJ Gov and VA Gov. (You can also add VA Lt. Gov to the list. I am going to assume that Democrats have wrecked their chance to pick up VA AG, and are just hoping that the damage is not transferable higher up the ballot.)
If somehow Democrats lose either Governorship in New Jersey or Virginia, that is going to be considered nothing less than catastrophic for the party.
Right now, I happen to still think Democrats will win both (especially VA) but those races have tightened and do not appear to be the blowouts many expected. National vulnerabilities for Democrats are playing a part. It should be though that in those states headwinds against Trump would be bigger.
This is tired Bull Shit…..
Every cycle the media goes silly on NJ and GOPer’s….
AND?
The Democrat WINS….
In this case the polls have her leading above the MOE….
Virgina will probably be the same thing….
DRAMA!
But Democrats HAVE been doing DAMN good off of Trump’s chaotic coattails….
Um, last cycle the Republican won VA in a surprise and the Democrat almost lost.
I guess four years can seem like a long time ago.
I do not think you have posted one story about the Jay Jones thing in Virginia. As mentioned, he probably is now going to lose a race he was going to win before his disgusting text messages came to light (and how dumb does he have to be to have been sending that stuff to a Republican politician?)
It is to0 late to replace him on the ballot, or else Democrats there would have forced him out. He would have deserved it.
Republican political types around the country are talking about Jay Jones at every turn, but it has not been “covered” on here. They think it is going to cost Spanberger her election. I doubt that. In the era of Trumpism, outrage is not transferable and the fact that the race will even be as close as it will be for AG is due to the tremendously lower standards of behavior that Trump ushered in during 2016, along with mega-tribalism on both sides.
Ur up CG….
I’ll do the jones ‘text’ story later
Interesting….
Democrat incumbent in NJ almost lost in 2021.
Oh, maybe you were only talking about NJ.
She seems very much like a cautious Harris like candidate in NJ (same in VA actually) so james should at least be a bit concerned.
But did NOT…..
Jersey IS a BLUE state
post in moderation about NJ and VA and Jay Jones.
You practically beg me to post and then when I do, you accuse me of “tired bullshit.” What gratitude I guess…
I am mostly joking about the gratitude thing but I do hope that the somewhat lengthy post I did, largely about Jay Jones, who I believe has gone unmentioned on PD101, gets posted here.
Send me a link,…
