I do NOT have much of Anything Good to say about Donald J. Trump….
BUT?
I’m with the guy on this one….
In case you haven’t followed this….
The current US Air Force two Boeing 747’s are more than 30 years old…..
Almost 10 years ago the Air Force took possession of two returned Russian Private airlines B-747’s to be converted to new US Presidential Aircraft….
Those aircraft are 13 years old….
The US Military White House Office has so MANNY things the planes are supposed to do BESIDE’s just flying from point A to point B that the aircraft require over a decade to build and put in service….
Trump’s RIGHT….
The whole process has gone off the hook ….
It cost BILLIONS…..
Trump 1.0 put Boeing under a set cost….
Boeing has blown thru that by Billions….
And still won’t have the two ex-Russian owed aircraft ready for years….
Trump saw a previous Supped Up VIP outfitted B-747-8 returned by Qatar…
He has moved to have to have THAT plane as his new Air Force One by the end of the year….
Good Move….
Of course the taxpayer’s have given Boeing Money for other two aircraft?
What to do with them?
Probably have a THREE Presidential plane airline, eh?
Trump wants the plane ready by this fall, and reportedly has been frequently asking for updates. The interim jet would complement the current pair of jets. The Air Force has reportedly long wanted a third jet to serve as a backup, when one of the current planes is undergoing maintenance.
Of course with this project being rushed so much, that creates some challenges. The plane won’t be as capable as the other jets that act as Air Force One, and modifications will be limited, including with security equipment.
Now, it remains to be seen if the jet gets Trump’s beloved “patriotic” paint job, or if it’ll get the livery that was approved a couple of years ago. I’d assume the former, but who knows. One of the concerns with Trump’s livery of choice is that the dark blue paint may increase the heat signature on the plane, and require time consuming modifications to avoid interfering with key electronics systems.
For a decade now, the government has been working on Air Force One replacements, with two Boeing 747-8s having been ordered. While the planes were supposed to be delivered in 2024, that timeline has been delayed all the way to 2035.
Trump is growing impatient and wants to fly a new Air Force One ASAP. As a result, the government has picked up a Boeing 747 from Qatar, and it’s now being modified. Trump hopes to fly this plane within months, by the fall. Interestingly, it’ll be lacking a lot of the equipment that’s typically associated with Air Force One….
Note…
To me it’s NOT about the opulence that Trump IS sure to have on the new plane…
(We don’t know about the paint job yet)
It’s more about take TEN YEARS to produce a plane that is JUST supposed fly an American President form one place to another….
Most of the ‘special’ stuff listed as requirements for a Air Force One are simply Bull Shit…..
It’s just a Airplane….
