With Trump pissing Democratic voters off Daily?
And the whole Biden…Harris…. Handoff thing?
(Biden IS trying to climb back in to the spotlight )
Why NOT start the nomination sweepstakes moves Early?
Republicans ARE ALREADY talking about J.D. Vance to follow Trump….
For years, the run-up to the presidential primary has been marked by a wink-wink approach — defined by intense behind-the-scenes preparations and a public coyness about national ambitions. But the days of the shadow primary are giving way to a franker, more overt set of potential 2028 presidential primary candidates, many of whom are bluntly acknowledging they’re taking a serious look at running — two and a half years out.
“People are smart to make their intentions known, or thinly veiled, because the days of playing coy are over. Everyone sees through that bullshit,” said Rebecca Pearcey, who advised Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren during her 2020 presidential campaign. “I wouldn’t be surprised if anyone out on the national circuit did announce at any point.”
The campaign’s jump start does not come without potential downsides. Contenders can catch a spark too early and flame out, or turn off voters with their ambition or pitch. But there is pressure on Democrats to start making moves now, with the lack of any clear frontrunner and a void in party leadership in a GOP-controlled Washington.
It’s not that denials are entirely absent from the landscape of potential 2028 contenders. Some politicians must navigate their own reelections in 2026, including Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, who maintained he is “not running” during an interview on ABC’s “The View” this month. Buttigieg, following up on his own 2028 comments later on Tuesday night and after a town hall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said, “Right now, I’m not running for anything.”
But the steps contenders are taking now are unabashed — even if they’re still largely happening in private. Buttigieg was trailed during a visit to Iowa on Tuesday by a videographer from his political group Win the Era. Last week, he and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) posed for selfies and chatted up influencers at a four-day “Trending Up” content creator conference in Washington, D.C., according to two attendees granted anonymity to describe a private event….
…
Several factors are contributing to the Democratic primary’s early start. There’s the reality of the hole Democrats find themselves in — “that unlike 2017, this doesn’t feel like a fluke and the problem is no longer Trump, it’s us,” said an adviser to a potential 2028 candidate, granted anonymity to discuss the issue candidly, adding that the party is on the hunt for someone to “make us better.”
“That’s the question that got this going earlier than ever,” the adviser said.
A second adviser to a 2028 hopeful argued that the primary started as far back as 2022 and 2023, when Democrats were sizing up whether then-President Joe Biden was running for reelection. “There was a lot of, ‘I’ll be a surrogate,’ as an excuse to be in the early states,” the adviser said.
There’s also the harsh financial reality of presidential politics, which tend to require multimillion-dollar operations and national name recognition to break through to primary voters……
I see where Tim Walz is testing the waters.
Walz showed absolutely nothing as VP candidate.
Why he was even picked is beyond me .
Waltz was the Average‘white giuy’ to balance a non-white Woman……
He was ‘safe’ and no threatening….
Come On!
Even YOU can understand that
Oh I “ understand “
The problem was that Harris and her advisors didn’t “ understand “ that with her late start she needed to come out with the proverbial “ bang.”
Instead of selecting someone like Shapiro( which likely would have put Pa. In her column) as well as made an impact as the first Jewish candidate on a major national ticket, let’s go with this old White guy.
She didn’t need “ safe” Cedric. She needed something out of the box given her short campaign.Of course you don’t uh “ understand “ such things.
Walz contributed nothing to the ticket and the idea that a bunch of old White geezers would support Harris because a fellow geezer was on the ticket is naivety of the first order.
I agree she should have picked Shapiro (or Beshear) but Lieberman was the first Jewish person on a national ticket, and could potentially be the only one in American history forever. We will see what happens in 2028 for Democrats.
The craziest thing is that Harris and her people picked Walz because he told them he had no desire to ever run for President and thus they trusted he would be more loyal than Shapiro. Now, Walz is not ruling out a Presidential run, even as Harris herself could still run. That is chutzpah.
Yes
Shapiro was more outspoken
But an executive….
And yup
The Jewish question IS going to be a factor for him and Democrats
Yeah Lieberman of course.
See what happens with old men!Haha!
I agree with your view on the choice mistake
For me right now..,,.
Shapiro is in the lead….
A big part of the reason Walz was picked was because he was considered to the left of the other finalists, especially Shapiro. At the time, it seemed like they thought they had the race won and were being overconfident. Now, it seems like their own data was telling them they were behind and it seems like they were worried about losing voters on the left, especially by picking Shapiro, because so much of the base of the party is incredibly anti-Israel and so many young people on the left seem quite tolerant of anti-Semitism.
It turns out those voters they were worried about losing still voted against the ticket, while Shapiro would have gotten them a lot more votes in the center than they lost. Harris/Shapiro might have still lost to Trump, but would have carried Pennsylvania, would have gotten Casey across the finish line in the Senate race, and probably won at least three very close U.S. House races in Pennsylvania for Democrats, which would have at least given them the House.
The idea that “hunters and fishermen and truckers” and all sorts of white men were suddenly going to fall in love with Tim Walz was ridiculous. He had lost those voters in his most recent Minnesota campaign and probably even cost the ticket in Minnesota last year.
Democrats lost votes because Harris came across as a STRONG WOMAN, who wasn’t White also…..
I stand by by feeling that although we have women Governor ‘s and Congressional representatives….
Americans, particularly males, are not comfortable with a woman President…
I am watching the Clyburn interview from this morning now and in attempting to defend Biden, he said that knew people who had Alzheimer’s while in their “30s and 40s.” That claim is pretty remarkable.
