These guys ARE going on the record along with a growing numnber of Republican lawmakers in DC and Red States which will get hit harder….
Fox News people no less….
Ben Shapiro, co-founder of the Daily Wire, called Trump’s tariffs “probably unconstitutional” and also illogical. “The president’s vision of international trade is, I’m sorry to say, mistaken,” he said on his Thursday streaming show. “This is a massive tax increase on American consumers. That’s what it is.”
“I hate tariffs. I think they’re stupid,” said Fox News contributor Ben Domenech. “I think they’re backwards. I don’t think they help the American economy. The president has a different opinion.”
During a tariff discussion on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday morning, co-hosts Lawrence Jones and Steve Doocy acknowledged the uncertainty about how long American consumers will feel “pain” from the levies. Jones said that short-term pain is “going to be hard for the folks that are living paycheck to paycheck.”
“We’ve already had one quarter of pain,” Doocy said, citing recent economic indicators. “And the problem is going forward: How long is it going to last?”
Guests on Fox News and Fox Business have also criticized the tariffs. “What President Trump has proposed is, actually, if it’s carried out, will be probably the largest tax increase on American consumers in the history of the country,” former Republican U.S. senator Patrick J. Toomey said on Maria Bartiromo’s business network show Thursday. “I strongly disagree with this trade war that has been launched.”
Perhaps the most persistent and strident criticism of the president’s tariffs has come from another part of the Murdoch media empire: the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board.
“Mr. Trump’s tariffs are the biggest policy shock to the world trading system since Richard Nixon blew up Bretton Woods in 1971,” the board wrote Thursday. “As with that decision, Mr. Trump is acting with little understanding about the damage his tariffs will cause.”
And even Hannity acknowledged the backlash to the tariffs. “The playing field is now getting leveled,” he said on his Thursday show. “It’s a little messy in the beginning.”….
