The group did not say whom it plans to primary, but Lata said it was looking at representatives who are “asleep at the wheel” and “out of touch.” Hogg and Lata stressed, however, that their effort will not challenge front-line Democrats who face competitive races. The campaign will focus on primarying Democrats in safe blue districts, and they said the age of members has nothing to do with their calculus.
For instance, Hogg and Lata dismissed the primary efforts against Reps. Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and Jan Schakowsky (D-Illinois), both of whom are in their 80s, saying that those lawmakers were not the type they were interested in targeting — although both have drawn young progressive challengers who share similar messaging as Leaders We Deserve about the need for younger leadership and for Democrats to fight harder against Trump….

Lata acknowledged that Leaders We Deserve is likely to face criticism that such an effort might distract from taking back the House or divert resources that could be used elsewhere, but he pointed to Kamala Harris’s campaign loss in 2024 despite heavy spending and to grassroots donors who have said they don’t want to give to the party in its current state….
