Could these dropping numbers be a signal to Trump to drop the Musk escapades?
At the one-month mark of Donald Trump’s second term as president, his approval rating in a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS tilts negative but still lands above the level he reached at any point in his first four years in office.
There are signs in the poll, though, that the warmer welcome Trump has received this time around could be fleeting, as optimism about his return to office has slipped since December. A broad majority feel the president isn’t doing enough to address the high prices of everyday goods. And 52% say he’s gone too far in using his presidential power, with similar majorities wary of his push to shutter federal agencies and elevate Elon Musk to a prominent role in his efforts to reshape the government.
Americans divide on Trump’s performance in office thus far, with 47% approving and 52% disapproving, below the start-of-term ratings for any recent presidency other than his own. For most of the public, Trump’s actions are lining up with their expectations: Three-quarters say his handling of the presidency has been in line with what they expected while 25% say he’s handled it in an unexpected way, similar to how people felt a few weeks into his first term….

Pessimism on the rise
Most adults nationwide, 55%, say that Trump has not paid enough attention to the country’s most important problems and 62% feel he has not gone far enough in trying to reduce the price of everyday goods. Sizable shares across party lines share the latter view, including 47% of Republicans, 65% of independents and 73% of Democrats. In CNN’s January polling, the economy eclipsed all other issues as Americans’ top concern.
More describe themselves as pessimistic or afraid when looking ahead to the rest of Trump’s second term (54%) than say they feel enthusiastic or optimistic about it (46%). In December, 52% were on the positive side, 48% negative. Notably, the share saying they feel “afraid” has climbed 6 points to 35%, rising by a roughly equal share across partisan lines…..

Another Negitive Poll rating for the Trump/Musk Government butchering effort…
Overall, 43 percent of Americans say they support what the president has done during his first month in office, with 48 percent saying they oppose. Those who strongly oppose outnumber those who strongly support by 37 percent to 27 percent.
The president’s supporters applaud him for deporting undocumented immigrants and cutting government waste. Those unhappy with the direction he is taking the country say they fear Trump is allowing billionaire Elon Musk to dismantle critical government programs.
…
On specific areas of responsibility, a majority disapprove of how he is handling the economy (53 percent versus 45 percent approving), and a similar majority disapprove of how he is managing the federal government (54 percent). On immigration, opinions are closely divided, with 50 percent approving of how he’s handling the issue and 48 percent disapproving…
…
On two personal attributes, most Americans say Trump is not “honest and trustworthy” (62 percent), while they are divided over whether he “has the mental sharpness it takes to effectively serve as president” — 47 percent say he does, and 50 percent say he does not.
Assessments of Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur who oversees the effort to reshape the executive branch of government, are more negative than those of the president. The poll finds 34 percent saying they approve of the way Musk is handling his job, with 49 percent disapproving and 14 percent not sure….
…
Americans disapprove by a 2-to-1 margin of Musk shutting down federal agencies that he decides are unnecessary, and most (63 percent) are concerned that his team is gaining access to sensitive personal data of individuals. But the public is closely divided on whether he is mostly cutting wasteful spending or slashing necessary programs, 37 percent versus 34 percent, with 26 percent saying they are not sure….
Note…
Trump ONLY positive is immigration….
And those actual actions have so meager that they Trump ‘s admin is mounting a multi million dollar ad effort to ‘scare’ undoucumented migrants out of the country….
Told ya so Jack……
What did you tell me ?
Sabato’s outfit on current Trump polling…..
….As of Wednesday afternoon, Trump’s approval and disapproval ratings in national polls were very similar in averages provided by the two major polling aggregators, FiveThirtyEight and RealClearPolitics.
Trump was at 48.7% approve/46.2% disapprove (+2.5 points net approval) in 538 and 49.2% approve/46.9% disapprove (+2.3 points) in RCP. The averages are computed in different ways and don’t include all of the same polls, but they both tell the same basic story.
The current averages show some decline for Trump since the first approval polls of his second term. The first 538 finding showed Trump’s approval at 49.7% approve/41.5% disapprove (+8.2 points), so his net approval is nearly 6 points weaker now.
Meanwhile, RCP does not show its initial average, but if one just looks at the approval polls in its database with field dates only in January, it shows an average of 48.6% approve/44.3% disapprove (+4.3 points). So the RCP net approval is also lower now too.
Notice that Trump’s current job approval rating in both averages is fairly similar to the initial average. Trump’s approval of around 49% on average is also very similar to the share of the vote he received in November (49.7%)…
…
One other thing: We have noted in the past that Trump’s favorability is often lower than his approval. That remains the case: Trump’s net favorability is 47.9% favorable/48.7% unfavorable (-0.8 points) in RCP and 46.5%/48.2% (-1.7 points) in 538…
More….
They point that Trump STILL has most of the Democratic and Indie cvoters that gave him a second term….
But…
The support IS getting softer by EACH Polling day….
My theory is Trump is dying and he’s trying to take the country down with him.
Notice how we didn’t see his health records before the election and he has been even given even more pancake makeup and hair treatment in recent months.
Call me crazy but this is exactly how a raging narcissistic would behave when confronted with mortality. Burn it all down.
