The first phase of the deal calls for a 42-day ceasefire and the release of an initial 33 hostages, U.S. officials said. A senior U.S. official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive negotiations, said three hostages would be released within 48 to 72 hours of the agreement, along with a still-unknown number of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.
In remarks from the White House, Biden announced that U.S. hostages still in Gaza would be returned home during a 42-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Of the seven Americans held captive in the enclave, three are believed to still be alive. Four others have been declared dead…..

Israel is keeping up attacks in Gaza to keep up the pressure….
- Palestinians in Gaza are celebrating after mediators confirmed a ceasefire deal has been reached between Hamas and Israel after 15 months of war. The truce is set to take effect on Sunday, January 19.
- Israeli forces, however, are continuing with their attacks across the Gaza Strip, killing at least 30 Palestinians in the enclave since the agreement was announced….

Israel and Hamas approved a ceasefire-hostage agreement on January 15. Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani announced that mediators from the United States, Qatar, and Egypt will monitor the ceasefire, which will take effect on January 19.
