The Sugar Bowl in New Orleans got postponed on New Years and the Superdome was locked down after the mass casualty attack that happened earlier in the city.
Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley announced in a press conference the game between Georgia and Notre Dame has been postponed 24 hours.
“Speaking of which, we were scheduled this evening to have a CFP quarterfinal played in the Superdome at 7:45. We have been in consultation with ESPN and the College Football Playoff, the Southeastern Conference, the University of Georgia, Notre Dame. All parties agree it’s in the best interest of everyone in public safety that we postpone the game for 24 hours,” said Hundley.
“There will be more details on that in the coming hours, but for now, that’s the plan we are going to move forward and play the game. We reiterate our thanks to everyone up here for the important work they do up here,” he added.
ESPN reported the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where the game would be played, was on lockdown on Wednesday for a security sweep.
The superdome was a mile away from the New Years attack where Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a pickup truck with an ISIS flag in the vehicle into a crowd that killed 15 people and injured many others….
