It seems that Musk got told to but out of the spending bill over by the House and he went crying to Trump…..
Trump joined the Rightwingnut chorus denouncing ANY ‘deal’ with Democrats, just like in the old days , eh?
If Democrats stay firm against a ‘clean’ bill?
We will be on the road to a government shutdown for the holidays
Last time Trump sponsored one of these?
It lasted 45 days and thew GOP’s took the hit….
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is looking at a plan B to fund the government ahead of Friday’s shutdown deadline as Republicans inside and outside the Capitol, including President-elect Trump and his allies, slam his spending package.
The back-up option Johnson is examining is a “clean” continuing resolution, two sources familiar with the matter told The Hill. That would entail dropping the additional provisions that were included in the initial 1,500-page spending package negotiated by congressional leaders, including disaster aid and economic assistance for farmers.
Late in the afternoon, Trump and Vice President-elect Vance waded into the fray, slamming the bipartisan bill negotiated by Johnson and calling for a “streamlined” spending stopgap combined with an increase in the debt ceiling…..
President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Vance on Wednesday called for Republicans to approve a clean stopgap funding bill paired with a hike to the debt ceiling, saying the previous government-funding measure negotiated by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) should be torpedoed.
In a lengthy statement issued amid growing opposition to the Johnson bill from Trump allies and House Republicans, Vance and Trump said lawmakers should pass a “streamlined spending bill that doesn’t give Chuck Schumer and the Democrats everything they want.”….
…
In a follow-up post Wednesday evening, Trump added that the spending bill, “Sounds like the ridiculous and extraordinarily expensive Continuing Resolution, PLUS, is dying fast, but can anyone imagine passing it without either terminating, or extending, the Debt Ceiling guillotine coming up in June? Unless the Democrats terminate or substantially extend Debt Ceiling now, I will fight ‘till the end. This is a nasty TRAP set in place by the Radical Left Democrats! They are looking to embarrass us in June when it comes up for a Vote.”…
…
The package was on life support on Wednesday night as G.O.P. lawmakers balked at its details, a backlash further fueled by a condemnation by President-elect Donald J. Trump, who called it full of “DEMOCRAT GIVEAWAYS,” and his close ally Elon Musk.
End-of-year spending bills often become magnets for unrelated measures, fueled by last-minute spasms of deal-cutting by lawmakers who recognize it could be their last chance to get something done. That was even more true this year with Democrats bracing for a Republican governing trifecta come January, and Speaker Mike Johnson arriving at the negotiating table sapped of leverage because a large group of his members refuses to vote for any spending measure.
…
Two of the top Democratic appropriators, Senator Patty Murray of Washington and Representative Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, have worked to shoehorn additional money for child care and early education programs into virtually every major spending bill that Congress considers.
Tucked into this legislation is $250 million in emergency spending to increase access to child care for working families and another $250 million for renovations to child care facilities damaged by natural disasters and temporary child care services in affected areas.
Other measures include:
-
Allowing E15 ethanol — gasoline blended with 15 percent corn-based ethanol — to be sold year-round.
-
An additional $25 million to protect the residences of Supreme Court justices.
-
Requiring vendors selling tickets to “concerts, sports and other large gatherings” to disclose to consumers the total ticket price — including additional fees — at the beginning of a transaction.
-
Transferring control of Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium from the federal government to the District of Columbia, paving the way for the Washington Commanders football team to move their stadium from Maryland to play home games in the nation’s capital.
-
Criminalizing the publication of “nonconsensual intimate visual depictions,” including deepfake pornography, and requiring social media platforms to have procedures in place to remove the content after being notified by a victim.
-
Imposing new restrictions on pharmacy benefit managers, the companies hired by employers and government programs like Medicare to negotiate drug prices and oversee prescriptions. The measures would discourage those companies from steering patients toward more expensive drugs.
-
Throwing out a requirement that lawmakers buy health coverage on an insurance exchange established by the Affordable Care Act and allowing them to get coverage from the traditional federal employee benefits plan.
-
Adding to the existing responsibilities of the assistant secretary of commerce for travel and tourism the additional mandate of promoting “locations and events in the United States that are important to music tourism.”…

To get Congress members votes?
Lawmakers gotta get ‘theirs’ to bring home to voters….

GOP Sen. Kevin Cramer as spending bill collapses amid Trump’s new demands: “I’m very frustrated.”
Asked if he’s frustrated with Trump: “I’m frustrated with his team to not have engaged sooner than this.”

The White House slammed President-elect Donald Trump and Republicans for the unraveling of a spending agreement that could lead to a government shutdown by the weekend.
“Republicans need to stop playing politics with this bipartisan agreement or they will hurt hard-working Americans and create instability across the country,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement….

As GOP members streamed into Johnson’s office to pick up gifts and stop by an ironically timed Christmas party, they didn’t voice enthusiasm for Trump’s demands. Recent debt limit negotiations have taken months and take up a lot of oxygen on Capitol Hill. Clearing it in days is a tall order, especially with lawmakers eager to leave town for the holidays.
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) answered “no” to questions about both if he’s interested in launching debt limit talks at this point and if he thinks linking debt limit to spending is possible before the deadline.
“You’d love to have [a comprehensive spending deal] with the debt ceiling and then be done with it,” said Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.). “That’s not going to happen. There aren’t votes for that. But, you know, if you have a CR with the debt limit, at least, you get part of the problem done.”
Asked if it was realistic to try to add a debt ceiling increase to the spending bill, Hern responded: “Every time you change something, it’s a challenge.”
Trump upped the ante by threatening primary challenges against Republican lawmakers who back a stopgap spending bill that does not also raise the debt limit and warning them to force a vote on “the mess of the Debt Limit” during his administration….

It’s funny because the other day CG said we shouldn’t count on Republicans to mess up.
Seems like they are doing just that–royally!

Yup Jack…..

Same stuff happening as during Trump 1.0

According to a recent Washington Post Post Poll…
A majority of “The American People “ oppose:
Using the military to deport undocumented immigrants
Using the Justice Department to “ investigate” Trump’s political rivals
Pardoning the hoodlums who invaded the Capitol Jan.6 2021
Using police use force to break up anti Trump protests
Note….” The American people “elected Donald Trump President .

‘They’ ARE SORRY ALREADY ❗️😌
CG says
I think it is nearly ridiculous (and a bad rerun of a failed show) to think that Trump voters care all that much.
Whatever one might tell a pollster, these people, including the Clinton-Biden-Trump voters are going to shrug it off. These voters are not sorry and are never going to say they are sorry over politicians fighting on Capitol Hill. They expect nothing less of them.
They just want lower prices. Nothing else matters to them. As long as prices do not go up and illegal border crossings do not go up, they are going to be fine with all the “chaos.” It’s irrelevant to their lives.
So, I guess us anti-Trump folks are supposed to “root” for high prices and a bad economy. Of course, we have to buy things and pay bills too.
jamesb says
Well?
The MAGA crew ain’t gonna get lower much of anything

Apparently, some Republicans are supporting electing Elon Musk Speaker of the House.
Scott P says
This would be the equivalent of Democrats suggesting George Soros be elected Speaker if they controlled the House.
Obviously Drmocrats never did that because despite their faults they are still a serious party.
CG says
People online were suggesting making Matt Gaetz Speaker
Generally speaking, I also note that while I have come to dislike Elon Musk, one cannot argue that he is not an accomplished person. He has taken risks and had great successes. Now, he is lumped together with Vivek Ramaswamy who has accomplished nothing except running his mouth. Musk should be upset about that.
jamesb says
Elon and Vivek are business men….
Responsible ONLY. To their bank accounts
They have NO IDEA how to take care of PUBLIC GOVERNMENT dealings….
Please remember that
They have not been elected
Elon was born in South Africa
I could be wrong
But I think these guys will be a footnote once Trump realizes that Musk gets more attention then he does…::
CG says
Why does it matter where he was born? Why throw that in?
jamesb says
Cause Republicans ‘throw’ in that factor ALL THE TIME….
Does Elon and Trump’s wife get shipped back?
BTW?
Pelosi, Jeffries and others are asking who should they deal with …..
Trump or Musk?
Vivek already getting pushed to sidelines
Trump gonna get pissed on the attention thing?
