Donald Trump’s increasingly provocative Cabinet picks have left some Republican senators aghast and Washington in shock.

But they really shouldn’t. Because the outrage is the point.

But they are perfectly in tune with Trump’s campaign trail promises and political project. The dismay engulfing establishment elites contrasted with the euphoria rocketing through conservative networks and social media among Trump fans. The president-elect draws political strength from his position as an outsider scourge of the establishment, and if his picks are confirmed by the Senate — a huge if in the case of Gaetz — they will be tasked with his mission of defenestrating government and driving out those Trump sees as enemies.

Trump won the election and has a mandate for change. And these and other picks are proof of a president-elect who is increasingly powerful and cares little for the critics who warn his second term poses a threat to the rule of law…

Trump’s short-lived former first-term communications director Anthony Scaramucci told CNN’s Jake Tapper that the president-elect’s personnel selections were purposely meant to “own the liberals.” Paraphrasing Trump’s intent, he added: “‘Let’s pick some triggering people.’ And those are the triggering people.”…

Is Trump looking for an attorney general to ensure the administering of fair justice? If so, would he have chosen Gaetz, who had been under investigation? But the president-elect’s intentions were clear in his announcement of his intent to nominate him: “Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System.” Trump’s statement seems to play into his long-term aspiration to find an attorney general who defends him and targets his enemies….

A president-elect who feels liberated from constraints after his election victory may not yet be finished rocking the boat with positions yet to be announced, including secretaries of the Treasury and Health and Human Services. It is no wonder Trump started this week demanding GOP senators acquiesce to his demands for recess appointments for nominees if they cannot win swift confirmation.

Trump has set up the first test of whether there will be any pushback from a new Republican Senate majority against a president who believes he will be all powerful once he’s sworn in….

    The Miami Herald confirms that the Ethics Report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is “highly damaging” — and could be leaked today.

    John Clune, the lawyer for the then-minor who was the focus of the Matt Gaetz sex trafficking investigation, posted: “We would support the House Ethics Committee immediately releasing their report. She was a high school student and there were witnesses.”

      • My thinking is that his family knows a lot more about him and his past and various other pertinent things than the general public does. Considering the damage he could do to millions of Americans, his siblings should put Country First and get the information out there.

        • Donald Trump won the election less than two weeks ago, and he is not wasting any time rolling out his Cabinet picks. Last time around, Trump’s picks were designed to reassure the Republican establishment that the reality TV star and failed businessman was more serious than his campaign trail demeanor suggested….

          But, on paper at least, most of them seemed qualified and were a pretty easy confirmation vote for Republicans. In fact, many of them received bipartisan support.

          This time around, Trump’s cabinet choices were designed to trigger everyone in politics not wearing a MAGA hat…..

    And since paying this debt will only involve dead Americans instead of his own cash Trump actually paid it.

  6. Awhile back I commented on an old saying of Jack Germond ,who,along with Jules Witcover ,was a chronicler of presidential campaigns in the 1980s and 90s.

    Quoting an old editor he had worked for ,”The American people get the government they deserve.”I followed that up with the question “ maybe we deserve Donald Trump?”

    Now I wish to change that to a statement…

    “ We deserve Donald Trump.”

  7. Trump has apparently fallen slightly below 50% of the national popular vote as counting continues.

    If this holds?Look for the MAGA media and Trump himself to be back on the warpath as to voting “ irregularities “ and whatever other lies they can make up.

        Most could not believe the Swing states….

        The anti-female vote was known

        The stay home was not because of the strong early voting

        • Any poll where the so called “ leader” is within the MOE is meaningless and that was prevalent among almost all polls during the past campaign.

            Most polls DID show Harris AHEAD from the time she became the nominee…

            The pundits danced around until the end , when they made they got it worng just like u and me and everyone here….

            Virtually NOBODY coulod believe that America voters would be stupid enough to subject themselves to self fladulations from a convicted criminal in the hole for hundreds of millions….

            Trump the lying entertainer pulled it off….

            Helped by men against a possible woman President and dumb assed Democrats NOT VOTING in swing states…..

            And other dumb assed union members, minorities and even those in the military….

            Polling isn’t going away…..

            In hind sight?

            It DID show weakness in Harris chances….

            But?

            Even the pollsters couldn’t get past the prospect of another Trump 4 years….

  8. Ann Selzer,the Iowa pollster,who shook things up when she mistakenly predicted that Harris would likely win the state ,has announced she is giving up polling.

    Probably a good move.

    Lots of others should follow.

    Indeed, “ polling” nowadays seems to have little relevance.
