Hamas Israel Conflict….Day 414…Israel-Hezbollah Cease Fire Deal goes into effect…

The cease-fire will mark the beginning of a 60-day period “in which Lebanese military and security forces will begin their deployment in the south” and, as they take up positions, the Israeli military will gradually withdraw, the official said. The purpose is “not to create a vacuum,” and all Israeli troops should be gone when the 60-day mark is reached.

As Lebanese forces take control of the area between the Litani River and the Israeli border, according to an agreed-upon map, they will ensure that all heavy weaponry and Hezbollah infrastructure has been removed, the official said. The United States and France will join an existing verification mission, established after the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war but never effective, to ensure “on a real time basis … that any violations are deterred.”

That mission will not involve any U.S. troops in Lebanese territory, but will work with the Lebanese army to bolster its capacity and training, the official said.

The official denied earlier reports that Israel’s unilateral right to again attack Lebanon if it sees a threat was guaranteed in a separate Israel-U. S. agreement.

President-elect Donald Trump’s national security team was briefed on the deal after the election, and they received another round of briefings in the last 20 to 48 hours, the official said.
