A major explosion battered the Basta area of central Beirut early Saturday. At least four airstrikes hit the site, Lebanese state mediaand Reuters reported, citing security sources.

Photos from the scene showed a huge crater as first responders examined the wreckage. The strikes destroyed a residential building, according to Lebanese state media. The Lebanon Health Ministry said the initial toll was four deaths and 23 injured, adding that the search for anyone trapped under the rubble was ongoing, according to the Hezbollah-affiliated outlet Al-Manar.
