Patel said “some steps” have been taken by Israel to improve the situation, adding that the U.S. believed those improvements would not have come if it weren’t for the Biden administration. Still, he added that “additional steps” were necessary. “Nobody in this administration saying that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is pristine,” Patel said. “It continues to be a crisis.”
Israel carried out airstrikes Tuesday in Beirut’s southern suburbs, one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Lebanon, in a rare late-morning attack. The Israeli military said in a later statement that it had destroyed most of the missile production sites and weapons depots in the area, which it accused Hezbollah of installing.

- At least 43,665 people have been killed in Gaza during the war and 103,076 injured, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. At least 3,243 people have been killed and 14,134 injured in Lebanon, the country’s Health Ministry said. Neither agency distinguishes between civilians and combatants.
- Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack, including more than 300 soldiers. It says 373 soldiers have been killed in its military operation in Gaza….

Newly-appointed Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz reaffirmed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will continue its operation in Lebanon until it accomplishes its mission. Katz made these comments during a meeting with the IDF General Staff. Katz replaced Yoav Gallant as defense minister on November 8 and was formerly foreign minister.[2] Katz affirmed that Israel would “continue to hit Hezbollah with full force” to capitalize on past successes like the killing of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and “realize the fruits of victory.”
