A judge in Georgia has paused a new rule from the Georgia State Election Boardthat would have required officials to hand-count the number of ballots cast at each polling place.
“No training has been administered (let alone developed), no protocols for handling write-in ballots … have been issued, and no allowances have been made in any county’s election budget for additional personnel and other expenses required to implement the Hand Count Rule,” Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney wrote, according to a copy of the ruling obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“The administrative chaos that will – not may – ensue is entirely inconsistent with the obligations of our boards of elections (and the SEB) to ensure that our elections are fair, legal, and orderly.”….

A record number of early votes have been cast in Georgia on Tuesday as residents headed to the polls in a critical battleground state that is grappling with the fallout from Hurricane Helene and controversial election administration changes that have spurred a flurry of lawsuits.
More than 300,000 ballots were cast Tuesday, Gabe Sterling of the Georgia secretary of state’s office said on X. “Spectacular turnout. We are running out of adjectives for this.”
The previous first day record was 136,000 in 2020, Sterling said.
The swing state is one of the most closely watched this election, with former President Donald Trump trying to reclaim it after losing there to President Joe Biden by a small margin four years ago, leading Trump and his allies to unsuccessfully push to overturn his defeat.
Those efforts have loomed large this year as new changes to how the state conducts elections have been approved by Republican members of the State Election Board, leading Democrats and others to mount legal challenges, many of which have yet to be resolved even as Election Day nears.
Despite the massive turnout on Tuesday, the process appeared to go smoother this year for some Atlanta-area voters who spoke with CNN…

Georgia Early voting Update…
On Friday, turnout crossed 1 million early and absentee voters, or roughly 14 percent of active voters in the Peach State.
“We have done it! We crossed the 1,000,000 voter mark at around 11:50am. Amazing turnout! So happy for the counties and the voters! Let’s keep it going,” said Sterling, the chief operating officer of Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s (R) office, in a post on the social platform X after the milestone was hit.
Georgia is a critical state in this year’s highly competitive presidential race. Former President Trump won the state in 2016, and President Biden flipped it blue by narrow margins in 2020….
