ALL of the above ARE in President Biden’s lap….
THAT means it’s also in Vice President Harris’s lap…..
A trio of new trials — a devastating hurricane, expanding conflict in the Mideast and a dockworkers strike that threatens the U.S. economy — are looming over the final weeks of the presidential campaign and could help shape the public mood as voters decide between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump.
How events shake out — and how the candidates respond — could be decisive as they claw for votes in battleground states.
The sitting president, Joe Biden, is still the steward of a U.S. economy and foreign policy at this tumultuous moment and may well bear ultimate responsibility for how they play out. But how Harris and Trump approach the three disparate issues could have rippling impact on how Americans perceive their two choices this November.
“Unfortunately, there are going to be events like this, and this is where you see the leadership of a president show up,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Tuesday. “I think this should send a message to Americans: It matters. It matters who sits behind the Resolute Desk.”

One of my favorite pastimes is reading comments from the various “ focus groups “that spring up,particularly around election time.
They serve to remind how gullible or downright ignorant many voters are as to how government works or even what various government officeholders actually do.
I was reading one the other day wherein a young lady said that she “ blamed” Trump for Jan .6 although she thought the election was not “ fair!”Of course she was unable to articulate in any manner how exactly it was “ not fair.”
A lot of focus participants often blame Harris for things they claim Biden did ,apparently unaware the the VP has no particular role in forming administration policy.Accordingly ,except for pure speculation or rumors ,we really don’t know how much or how little Harris or any other VP had as such.
One participant said he was for Trump as Biden ( and by inference Harris, see above) was too much a big spender, apparently unaware that Trump was no shrinking violet when it comes to larding out money for his favorite policies.
I did enjoy one guys take on that favorite word of politicos, “ issues.”As he said , accurately in my view, that the only “ issue” right now is are we going to turn the government over to Donald Trump and his merry band of cheats and thieves.
Sometimes when you read this stuff it’s amusing .Then again when you realize that many of the uninformed views often expressed in these groups is much more indicative of the state of the electorate than some of us would like to think?
It’s scary!

Melanie Trump has come out as a rabid Pro Choice advocate over the abortion issue, even going so far as rejecting any compromise on the issue.
How will this affect the almost universal support for her husband among anti abortion advocates? My guess? It will have little effect ,although it might help explain Trumps inconsistent wobbling over the issue of late.
They are just too locked in to back off now.
Of course they won’t support Harris, however some of the more zealous might take a walk on Election Day.
Will generate a lot of talk but likely little effect overall,

Will Democrats worry about pissing off the labor unions though?
Like on other matters, they are in the position of needing to tread carefully around interest groups.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah that’s a problem.
However, inflation ,in my view, is much more a problem than the feigned outrage of the ILA.
While inflation has fallen dramatically it still remains a major concern of the general electorate. There are a lot more of them than ILA members.
In a race as close as this? In my view, rising prices ,which has been the focus of attacks on Biden administration and already has had some deleterious effect on Harris , but have faded somewhat of late ,does not need to be revived as a major issue this close to the election.Further ,as we all know ,this labor dispute eventually will end in some kind of compromise, the bold talk of the ILA leadership notwithstanding.

Interesting article in Washington Post as to Melanie Trumps pro choice abortion stand, noting that the past four Republican First Ladies all,to varying degrees took a pro choice position. All,except Betty Ford, waited until their husband was out of the White House to express their view however.
Betty Ford was noted for her outspokenness .In a 1975 interview on60 minutes she called Roe” a great, great decision.”
Although her views were well known in the White House,Nancy Reagan waited until 1994 to declare “ I believe in a woman’s choice”
Reagan’s Chief of Staff Jim Baker said Nancy convinced Reagan not to personally appear at a March For Life.In later years Nancy became a champion of embryonic stem cell research.
In 1994 Barbara Bush in her memoir while decrying the number of abortions said that it was “ a personal issue- between the mother, father and doctor.”
Laura Bush said in her 2010 autobiography that it was “ important “ that abortion remain legal.

Department of Justice launches evaluation of 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre
The Justice Department has launched a historic federal review of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, one of the worst incidents of racist terror committed against Black Americans in U.S. history.
The department plans to release a report by the end of the year that will analyze the massacre “in light of both modern and then-existing civil rights law,” Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Kristen Clarke announced Monday.
The federal examination comes more than 103 years after the Tulsa Race Massacre began on May 31, 1921. Over the course of two days and nights, White mobs attacked residents of the all-Black community of Greenwood, a neighborhood in Tulsa so prosperous it was called Black Wall Street.
The mobs killed as many as 300 Black people…

Kamala Harris just said that a difference between her and Joe Biden is that she will have a Republican in the Cabinet.
I was glad to hear her say that and be able to make the distinction with Biden. I think this is a smart political promise.
jamesb says
She gets points, eh?
Haven’t had that for some time
CG says
However, most of the focus is over her initial answer when she was asked if she would have done anything different than Joe Biden and said “nothing comes to mind.”
Ten minutes later in the “interview” after a commercial break or two, she offered up the Republican in the Cabinet difference.
CG says
I am under no illusion than the Republican in the Cabinet would be in anything than say Veterans’ Affairs or possibly Energy. It won’t be a very high level Cabinet post. If I get vetted, I will say so after the fact.

And she was on “The View.” They have openly endorsed her. They literally stated they were speaking to her in order to help her get elected. Sunny Hostin was not trying to put her in a “gotcha” moment. She should have had a better answer to the Biden question, for if nothing else, to prevent it from getting in the news cycle.
Again though, I do like that she promised to put a Republican in the Cabinet. Before Biden, every recent President has had at least one member of the other party in their Cabinet. I sure thought Biden would do the same and he did not.
jamesb says
CG?
Didn’t Trump want Fox?
jamesb says
The question was a effort to get a answer that would lead to putting her against her boss…

She is getting absolutely hammered for her initial answer. The fact of the matter is that Biden continues to be a drag on her candidacy. She should have at at least answered the Cabinet response right away instead of 10 minutes later.
And no, Harris is not going to put anybody who has been a Republican in recent decades as SecDef, though I wish she would of course.

As I explain to younger folks, when I saw them they weren’t “ legends.”They were just performers whose music played daily on the am dial of the radio( usually transistors).
A sampling of some of the people I saw live…Janis Joplin ,Jimi Hendrix, The Beach Boys ( when they were really beach boys and Brian Wilson was still playing live with them)Jerry Lee Lewis,The Drifters,The Temptations,The Four Tops,The Fifth Dimension Ray Charles, The Four Seasons, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chicago ( then known as the Chicago Transit Authority : Herman’s Hermits, Grand Funk Railroad, and many more.
