The Israel Defense Forces, which announced earlier this week that it had withdrawn from Kamal Adwan, said it was reviewing reports of an attack at the hospital on Thursday.
Seven people were killed in northern Israel in a rocket attack from Lebanon, Israeli officials said. The dead included four foreign workers, Israel’s foreign minister said.
Amos Hochstein and Brett McGurk, senior White House officials, met in Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Hochstein was returning to Washington Thursday evening, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive diplomatic discussions.
CIA Director William J. Burns met with Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi in Cairo and discussed efforts to reach a cease-fire and hostage-release deal in Gaza, the president’s office said.
Here are other key developments
- Israel carried out airstrikes in Lebanon’s Baalbek region hours after ordering residents to evacuate on Wednesday, the first time it has directed the evacuation of an entire city in Lebanon. Nineteen people were killed, Lebanese health authorities said; the IDF said it struck Hezbollah targets after issuing warnings to mitigate the risk to civilians.
- Over 1,000 entertainment and literary figures signed a letter against cultural boycotts targeting Israel, after more than 5,000 authors and publishing professionals signed a letterpromising not to work with Israeli cultural institutionsthat are “complicit” in what they called Israel’s human rights abuses against Palestinians.
- At least 43,204 people have been killed in Gaza during the war and 101,641 injured, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. At least 2,822 people have been killed and 12,937 injured in Lebanon, according to the country’s Health Ministry. Neither agency distinguishes between civilians and combatants.
- Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack, including more than 300 soldiers. It says 365 soldiers have been killed in its military operation in Gaza…..
