The judge overseeing Donald Trump’s Manhattan criminal case on Wednesday denied the former president’s latest bid to have the judge remove himself from the case, writing that Trump’s argument consisted of “nothing more than a repetition of stale and unsubstantiated claims.”
Justice Juan Merchan’s decision means that he will remain on the case through Trump’s sentencing, which is set to take place Sept. 18, for his conviction over falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to a porn star.
Before the hush money trial began this spring, Trump filed two unsuccessful motions urging Merchan to recuse himself from the case. After a jury convicted Trump on all 34 felony counts, Trump’s lawyers mounted a third recusal bid, arguing in late July that the judge had a conflict of interest due to what they described as his daughter’s “long-standing relationship” with Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris….

Judge denies Trump bid to move hush money case to federal court
A federal judge ruled Tuesday that former President Trump may not request to move his hush money criminal case to federal court after failing to show “good cause,” meaning the case will remain in New York state court.
U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein said in a four-page order that the two reasons Trump offered as to why his case should be removed — that New York courts were biased against him and that his trial judge did not adequately review the issue of presidential immunity — fall short…..
