Looking to use the benefit off the negative reaction to the High Court’s decision’s and seemingly political lean?
President Biden will go to Congress with a list of changes he feels should be done to reign in the ability of just 5 or 6 justices to effect the lives of 330 million Americans in ways they do NOT like or agree with…..
“President Biden is finalizing plans to endorse major changes to the Supreme Court in the coming weeks, including proposals for legislation to establish term limits for the justices and an enforceable ethics code,” the Washington Post reports.
“He is also weighing whether to call for a constitutional amendment to eliminate broad immunity for presidents and other constitutional officeholders, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations.”
“The announcement would mark a major shift for Biden, a former chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who has long resisted calls to reform the high court.”
Note…..
This will have little to no chance of passage in a majority Republican US House….
Scott P says
Considering the Supreme Court gets worse reviews than Hillbilly Elegy this is good politics.

I Agree…..
Ghost of SE says
Even Republican voters support Biden on this.

This is going nowhere of course.

I say that also…

It probably should not be a surprise that I take a contrary view.
Of course this is a political stunt that would not even seriously be considered and Biden and Democrats know it. It is also pretty hypocritical for a party that has always fought against Congressional term limits now wanting them for judges. I am sure Biden will say next that he wants to expand the Supreme Court after being so adamantly opposed to it for many years.
Democrats are now saying that if they have a Senate majority of one, they will suspend the filibuster to get the things done they really want. Traditionally, Democrats were very opposed to getting rid of the filibuster. Anybody who is truly angry with the Supreme Court as their number one issue is already voting for Democrats. It is not going to get them any new votes. Democrats were beyond politically dumb, pre-debate, by focusing on the wife of a Supreme Court Justice and whatever flag she wanted to fly, as if there is a single swing voter in America who gave a damn about any of that.
So, what is going to happen? The Republicans look like they are probably going to have a Senate Majority next year, along with a Republican House and Trump as President. The signaling from Democrats that they would get rid of the filibuster, is just going to cause a Republican dominated government to then say they can do the same.
All of this should cause Democrats to be both honest and serious about what they are up against and what they might face if Joe Biden stays in the race, loses to Donald Trump,. and sinks the party with him.

Standardized ethics code would be a good idea.
Term limits for judges? Not a good idea and lying to Americans by suggesting it is even remotely a possibility to occur.
Scott P says
“Standardized ethics codes” would mean Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito would be off the Court.
I don’t for a minute believe you want that.
CG says
What you say here makes no sense.
CG says
There should be transparency in regards go gifts, trips, what is allowed, how it must be reported, etc. It sounds like they were recently changed to require that and now Thomas and whomever else will have to follow the procedures/guidelines.
I do not believe that Clarence Thomas voted on the Supreme Court a way he would have have otherwise voted because of any trips or gifts. His judicial philosophy is widely known and I do not know where Alito fits into the issue at all. The only other one where questions were raised involved Sotomayor and her book.
Scott P says
Thomas at the very least should recuse himself from any cases involving the insurrection considering his wife supported overthrowing rhe election.
jamesb says
Thomas and Alito are NOT gonna STOP their efforts to drag America BACK to the 1950’s…..
The mistake IS to let NINE people make calls that change the lives of 330 Million with NO remorse ….
On face value it is LUDICROUS….
jamesb says
Biden IS going in the right direction…..
He’ll get nowhere on this….
But it’s going in the Right Direction and joins the media attention the court and two have generated ….
The Judges, Shit like Everyone else…..
If a President can be indicted and convicted?
The judges should ALSO be subjected to limits and rules like they preside over
CG says
If a Supreme Court Justice breaks the law, they can be indicted and convicted.
If they issue a ruling you do not like, that does not make it illegal.
Red MAGA and Blue MAGA alike seem to think that anybody who disagrees with them is a criminal and that is a big problem for the country.
CG says
You may think it is “ludicrous” but the Supreme Court is part of the Constitution.
jamesb says
CG?
The court members SHOULD HAVE MORE constraints….
Damn REAL….

Update…
Warning of ‘Extreme’ Agenda, Biden Calls for Supreme Court Overhaul
President Biden, warning that the country’s courts were being weaponized as part of an “extreme and unchecked” conservative agenda, said on Monday that he would push for legislation that would bring major changes to the Supreme Court, including term limits and an enforceable code of ethics on the justices.
Mr. Biden detailed his plans in a speech at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library and Museum in Austin, Texas, his first public engagement since announcing his decision to end his presidential campaign last week.
His visit was initially scheduled to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. But it quickly became a venue for Mr. Biden to begin buttoning up a 51-year legislative legacy while outlining an election-year intention to try to stop what many in his party feel is the Supreme Court’s ideological drift into conservatism.
The proposal would require congressional approval and has little hope of gaining traction in a Republican-controlled House and a divided Senate. In a social media post, Speaker Mike Johnson called the plan “dead on arrival” in the House. (Mr. Biden later said onstage that Mr. Johnson’s “thinking is dead on arrival.”….

This just for Political show points….
It has ZERO chance of passage….
