  2. I see no realistic scenario where Vance is replaced.

    I do not even think he will get much attention down the stretch of the campaign, nor will Harris’s running-mate.

      • He is not crazier than Trump, nor is he less intelligent than him.

        He just is more unprincipled than Trump, if such a thing is even possible. He decided a few years back to re-invent himself for the purpose of ambition, and with the right people dragging him along, it has been working for him thus far.

          • No, I do not think he believes much of what he says. Or he has decided he must choose to believe them in order to advance.

            I also think that saying people who do not have children do not care about the future of children in general is as wrong-headed and cheap as those who say that people cannot give birth cannot have an opinion about abortion.

              • The brouhaha is about something Vance said back in 2021, when he was back in the pack in a Senate primary and trying to appeal to the kind of people who would then make the appeal to Donald Trump to endorse him in that primary.. and that is what happened.

                Vance isn’t getting dropped and is not going to be a huge factor, but it was still a lost opportunity for Trump to not have picked someone with more experience or who could have helped expand his base or improve his chances in a state.

                Vance was picked because whomever ultimately decided on him was convinced Trump was going to beat Biden.

                  • Trump has never really even wanted to pick a VP.

                    in 2016, he wanted to pick Chris Christie, but for reasons that are not hard to imagine, Jared Kushner veteod it and wanted to pick Newt Gingrich.

                    Then, Paul Manafort leaked that it was Mike Pence (which was easily the smartest decision), and Trump then was obligated to ask Pence, and even after he made the agreement with Pence, he was still on the phone with Christie, telling him that he had not made up his mind yet.

    • If the childless cat lady remarks (that Vance is doubling down on) get Taylor Swift to endorse Harris Trump will go ballistic.

      Vance will get the boot and Jr and Eric will be out of the will. .

  3. I don’t think it will be considered a surprise if Taylor Swift endorses Harris.

    Of course Democrats should pounce on the childless cat lady remarks while they can still generate steam off of it, but that is only going to last so long.

    It is far more likely rhat Trump, whom seems even more unhinged than usual this week, is going to slip and say something about Harris publicly so completely outrageous and indefensible that a lot of people who were going to reluctantly vote for him decide they just cannot do so and risk the backlash.

    • Vance’s comments just highlight what Republicans think of childless and/or single people.

      They’ve thought of us as second class citizens for years.

      • It has been brought up if Vance might believe he deserves more voting power in the Senate than say Lindsey Graham or Tim Scott.

            • I do not think the average American is thinking much at all about JD Vance. It is a great topic for political people. The Biden age situation was impossible to avoid for people after the debate and post-debate coverage.

  4. I thought Val Demings was the smarter choice for Biden in 2020 and stand by that. If he had picked her, she would probably be the presumptive nominee right now, and might be in even better shape against Trump. She had very little chance of winning a Senate race in Florida though two years ago.

    Ironically enough, Biden just nominated Val Demings for the Postal Service Advisory Board or whatever it is called, for those who are holding out for a lengthy and complicated process in which the Postmaster General can eventually be replaced, since Biden does not have the power to fire him.

      I STILL remember some guy on another board that said he wasn’t gonna leave and Trump & Co. put his in a office and out the loop and and he quit ….

      I do NOT buy for a minute that DeJoy appointed by Trump WILL be in office If Harris becomes President….

        The Postmaster General is NOT nominated or appointed by the President. (For years they were, they were part of the Cabinet even, but that was a long time ago)

        The President does not hire or fire a Postmaster General. Whether you like those facts or not, they are the facts.

          • No, you don’t understand. The Board of Governors has 7 year terms, regardless of who is President. They cannot be removed. The President can fill vacancies, but no more than 5 out of the 9 positions can be held by a member of the same party.

            If a Democrat is President long enough, they will be able to appoint five members of the board, and if those members decide that DeJoy is not doing the job appropriately (before his seven years are up), then they can replace him.

            The example you give is not valid. Even if what Trump did is considered inappropriate, the Pentagon (Department of Defense) is directly under the Executive Branch. The Postal Service is not.

            • This whole discussion started when I posted a few days ago that Biden should fire the Director of Secret Service.James knew nothing about it but as usual decided he had to chime in..

              He declared that Biden didn’t “ like” firing people so he wouldn’t do that ( she resigned the next day).

              He used the “ fact” that he hadn’t fired the PG.I informed him Biden had no power to do so .

              He waited awhile( obviously he didn’t know that so he was busy googling to find out if this was so).When he discovered it was,he totally changed the conversation by claiming ,in effect ,that Biden could get around that ( presumably he meant by some political machinations which of course would have been rightfully denounced by the Republicans and likely even some Democrats And certainly the media).

                  • Apparently, Biden has the authority to “take out” DeJoy as an “official act”, but it would have to be that option.

              • Then ,and once again as usual ,he simply began repeating the anbove over and over( he has posted the above comment in some form numerous times now.)

                Thus ,starts his trying to make something real by mere repetition.Now it’s his reality.He does this all the time as a defensive mechanism because he lacks knowledge as to politics and government in general.

                Consciously or not we have all come to treat him sort of like the old slightly off his rocker off old uncle who ,when an intelligent discussion is going on ( or a reasonable facsimile thereof) ,will chime in with some irrelevant and usually untrue comment.We argue with him for awhile and then a new topic comes up and we all move on.
