Ex-President Donald Trump’s Vice President pick…..
James David Vance (born James Donald Bowman; August 2, 1984) is an American politician and lawyer serving as the junior United States senator from Ohio since 2023. A conservative member of the Republican Party, he was announced and nominated as Donald Trump‘s running mate for the 2024 United States presidential election during the 2024 Republican National Convention, making him the first millennial on a major party presidential ticket in the United States.[1][2][3]
Born in Middletown, Ohio, Vance served in the Marine Corps before studying political science and philosophy at Ohio State University and earning a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.[4] He came to prominence with his 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, which describes his upbringing in Middletown and his family’s Appalachian values[clarification needed]. It became a New York Times bestseller and later a film, and attracted significant press attention during the 2016 United States presidential election.[5]
Vance was originally a critic of Trump before later becoming a supporter during his presidency. Vance launched his first political campaign in 2021 to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate. He won the Republican nomination with Trump’s support and running against Democratic nominee Tim Ryan in the general election.
In the Senate, Vance has been described as a proponent of economic populism.[6] On social issues, Vance supported the overturning of Roe v. Wade and opposes abortion rights even in cases of rape or incest, but supports exceptions when a mother’s life is in danger.[7] On foreign policy, Vance has opposed U.S. military aid for Ukraine.[8] Vance is a strong supporter of U.S. support for Israel amid the Israel–Hamas war.[9]….

Another Republican who subjugated his first feeling about Trump to keep his job and status in the Party….
In this case it pays off handsomely…..

The Inside Story of How Trump Chose J.D. Vance
NBC News: “With the clock ticking last week to the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump met privately to discuss his running mate search with two of his closest advisers: his sons.”
“The conversation quickly turned tense when the former president indicated that he was leaning toward Doug Burgum, until recently the largely unknown governor of North Dakota — but someone whose low-maintenance, no-drama personality would never threaten to outshine Trump.”
“That’s when Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump chimed in.”
Said a GOP operative: “Don Jr. and Eric went bat—- crazy: ‘Why would you do something so stupid? He offers us nothing. They were basically all like ‘JD, JD, JD.”
So?
Burgum ACTUALLY was Donald Trump’s choice but he got talked out of it by HIS SON’s?

J.D. Vance Offers Democrats an Opening
Nate Silver: “That’s not to say Vance is the worst pick Trump might have made — at least not when he was reportedly also considering people like Victor Ramaswamay who had no elected experience at all. There was a lot of money spent in the Ohio race and Vance should be reasonably well-vetted. I have no doubt that he’s a smart guy. He’s certainly much younger (39) than any of the other three candidates on the presidential ballot.”
“Still, a fully functional Democratic campaign might be able to make some hay of this pick, perhaps by treating Vance as a cipher about whom little is known but who has been endorsed by right-wing groups like the authors of Project 2025. Democrats had success in running against these sorts of candidates in 2022, particularly Blake Masters in Arizona, who like Vance has ties to the venture capitalist Peter Thiel.”
“The question is whether the Democratic campaign is firing on anything resembling all cylinders right now, spending much of its time in a defensive posture stage-managing Biden’s appearances and fending off the intraparty revolt against him.”
New York Times: Biden calls J.D. Vance a Trump “clone” as Democrats label him an extremist.

They just need to spray paint the first two letters of Pence’s name and the can re-use the campaign signs. Money saved.

Not only is Vance’s “no abortion under any circumstance” position poison in the suburbs his biopic Hillbilly Elegy is at 25% on Rotten Tomatoes.
And they say the one thing Trump understands is ratings.

Trump does NOT support a national Abortion Law…..
Ghost of SE says
Weasel words designed to win the election. The pick of Vance says otherwise.
Scott P says
Exactly. Trump/Vance is a vote for a national abortion ban. Even for rape and incest survivors.
So much for Trump “moderating”!

The choice of Vance may actually lock out Trump’s efforts to sneak back to the middle….
Trump’s kids might have helped Biden aythe Democrats

Are Republican Voters Ready for the Nerdy Radicalness of J.D. Vance?
J.D. Vance’s elevation to the number two spot on the Republican ticket marks the culmination of two remarkable transformations — one personal to Vance, and one that has swept over the American right as a whole.
On the personal front, Vance’s selection represents the completion of the Hillbilly Elegy author’s much-remarked-upon evolution from liberal darling and stalwart Never Trumper to diehard MAGA loyalist and heir apparent to Trump’s political dynasty. The credibility of this conversion has been hotly debated on both the left and right, and lingering questions about those past criticisms of Trump are likely to hang over the Trump-Vance ticket until November…..

JD Vance praised school shooting denier Alex Jones and said women who were in violent marriages should stay married.
This VP pick makes Palin look genius in comparison!
Scott P says
I do give Mitt Rombey credit for saying he couldn’t distespect JD Vance any more than he does.
I hope that spurs Mitt to join Adam Kinzinger, Joe Walsh and Bill Kristol in endorsing rhe Democratic ticket this fall.

JD Vance railed against “childless cat ladies” running the country.
Why anyone wanted to reproduce with him in the first place is beyond me childless Americans are a growing demographic. Way to piss them off Republicans!

The level of extremist things Vance has said and done, this will be the most defining VP pick since Sarah Palin. I’m back to some confidence Biden/Harris can win.
Scott P says
Kamala Harris is gonna shred him in a debate.
CG says
Maybe Andy Beshear or Roy Cooper or Josh Shapiro would be a better option.
Scott P says
Either way is fine with me.
Vance is gonna be poison in the suburbs and with anyone whose not already a Christofascist.
CG says
Assuming both current tickets remain intact, I think Vance will be a distant 4th out of 4 in terms of attention.
Scott P says
Says the guy who thought Sarah Palin was a brilliant choice for VP.

Says the guy who a few weeks ago said Joe Biden was going to shred Trump in the debate.
No actually, I did not like the Palin pick when it was first announced. I was surprised it was done. She did give a great speech at the convention though. Ultimately, I don’t think she mattered much in the outcome of the 2008 election. If anything, she caused conservatives to vote for the ticket who might have otherwise stayed home.
Scott P says
Bullshit. You d
Fawned over her like a lovestruck schoolboy.
I doubt you talk with many pro choice women so you probably don’t realize how much they are turned off by this Todd Akin on steroids that is thd Trump/JD Vance ticket.
You hate Biden and yoy hate yourself for voting for him so I can see why you want the subject to only be that. Every woman I know that’s voting for their rights is going to keep doing so.
CG says
I might have fawned over her convention speech, but many did. Even Democrats admitted she hit a homerun with it. Ultimately, her being on the ticket did not matter. VP picks rarely do. I think Pence helped Trump in 2016 with conservatives who might not have voted for him otherwise, but that is a different era now.
Next, I don’t hate Biden and I definitely don’t hate myself. I just think I would be a better President than him and I think (at least in theory) I would have been better against Trump had I gotten the chance to be on the stage with him while his microphone was muted.
All the negative stuff on Vance I think will really only outrage people who are not going to vote for Trump anyway. Perhaps, it might motivate some on the left to not sit at home on Election Day.
CG says
For the record, I had my mother tell me on the phone today about the nasty things she heard about Vance said this morning on The View. But I had already told her yesterday how lousy he was for other reasons.
CG says
To just briefly comment on one other matter since it was brought up that I voted for “Alan F’ing Keyes.” Yes, I did, twenty f’ing years ago.
We are really reaching into the Wayback Machine there. I will point out that I have not voted for any Republican candidate in a federal election in eight years. The last two I voted for then were openly opposed to Trump at the time.
jamesb says
I agree with Scott…….
Democrats and the Media ARE gonna try and hang Vance around Trump’s neck…
jamesb says
All in ALL?
Donald Trump is probably going to regret not going with his gut Burgum…..

I was warning people here several years ago to call for Democrats to cut ties with anti-vax extemist RFK Jr., back when he was still considered a sought after fundraiser and surrogate for Democrats. People here said there would be no reason for Democrats to have to do that.
Scott P says
Well aren’t you astute. Sounds like RFK Jr is basically a Republican now and may be a GOP stalking horse candidate for the equally anti child vaccine Republican standard bearer.
Did you predict that one too oh seer of seers?
CG says
james, please free my post from the filter. and I guess I should stop now for that reason.
CG says
post in filter is about RFK Jr. and changes to the Republican Party. Maybe it will appear eventually.
Finally, I hope DSD is doing alright. Perhaps if he sees this, he can offer a brief post, if he wishes.
Bye.
CG says
My post from yesterday, which went to the filter, is still missing.
CG says
The substantive post I made yesterday is clearly not ever going to be released from the filter.
Briefly, it touched on how RFK Jr and his running-mate are pretty far left if you listen to them and see the core of their support.
Then, I noted the fact that the top speaker at night one of the Republican Convention was a union leader who spent his time attacking corporate America. Definitely not the Republican Party of old. I would think that many long-time Democrats would find the party more attractive now.
