The Harris campaign is calling Trump “old and weird.” It is a masterstroke. Nothing punctures the over-inflated ego of a toxic narcissist quicker than being thought of as a lumbering oddball. The strategy has legs. Trump compulsively provides evidence he is a nutter. And JD Vance is a gaffe machine.
On Thursday, Kamala’s team issued a press release, “Statement on a 78-Year-Old Criminal’s Fox News Appearance.” The headline alone is worth the price of admission. But they were just getting started. It began:
“After watching Fox News this morning we only have one question, is Donald Trump OK?”
That is genius rhetoric. You pose a question to suggest a weakness — without actually taking a position. It gives the respondent a sense of accomplishment when they get the answer ‘right.’ It is a favorite go-to of Fox News and Tucker Carlson — “I’m just asking questions.” I wouldn’t be surprised if the Harris campaign layered in, “people are saying …“
The statement goes on to say:
“Trump praised his Project 2025; Trump is flustered and lashing out; When Trump wasn’t lying, he was making threats; Abortion bans are good. Mail-in voting is bad…”
[Trump] Praised dictators because he wants to be one; Trump is clearly worried he made the wrong pick in JD Vance; Trump is old and quite weird. This guy shouldn’t be president ever again.”
My favorite phrase is “old and quite weird.” (although I would strike the “quite.” Modifiers often make your writing flabby — just call him weird.)….

Trump Confuses Ilhan Omar with Rashida Tlaib
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) mocked Donald Trump for “losing his memory” after he apparently confused her with another Muslim member of Congress during his visit to her home state on Saturday, The Independent reports.
Said Omar: “Trump telling dangerous anti-Muslim lies is nothing new. But I have never attended one of his speeches. He is lying again or losing his memory. Trump should step aside as his criminal convictions and continued legal troubles have clearly taken a toll on the 78 year old conman.”

The narrative that Sen. J.D. Vance is “weird” has gained traction, and Sen. Chuck Schumer speculated that may have Donald Trump considering replacing him, Rolling Stone reports.
Said Schumer: “Every day, it comes out Vance has done something more extreme, more weird, more erratic. Vance seems to be more weird and erratic than President Trump, and I’ll bet President Trump is sitting there, scratching his head, and wondering, ‘Why did I pick this guy?’”
He added: “The choice may be one of the best things Trump ever did for Democrats.”
The Independent: Democrats are hard selling Harris’ message that Trump and Vance are “weird.”
The Guardian: Harris allies deploy new Trump attack line: he is “just plain weird.”
MN Governor Tim Walz seems to be the favorite for the VP nod. Harris has picked up to great effect his line of attack on Trump and Vance.
Democrats do like VPs from Minnesota.

It’s clear from the numbers that the attack on Vance/Trump as “weird” has penetrated the zeitgeist. Searches for weird are way up on Google, and the topics that are driving that are all political.
Might be part of why some polls show Vance’s bad net favorables falling further.
