In nearly a decade of contests against women, the former president has long deployed sexist and misogynistic attacks — commenting on female rivals’ appearance and engaging in gendered stereotypes in a way that could alienate many of the voters he hopes to win over.
Now, with Trump expected to face Vice President Harris in the 2024 presidential race — going up not just against a female opponent, but also a Black and Indian American one — strategists and aides from both parties are girding themselves for an election steeped in allegations of sexism and racism, warning that the dynamic holds potential risks and rewards for both Harris and Trump.
Trump has already begun testing derogatory nicknames for Harris — “‘Dumb as a rock’ Kamala Harris,” “Lyin’ Kamala Harris” and “Laffin’ Kamala Harris” — as well as accusing her of playing “the race card” and purposely mispronouncing her first name. It is a tactic Trump has also deployed against Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis, the Black female prosecutor overseeing the Georgia criminal case against him for attempting to overturn the 2020 election….

But they also worry that Trump and some of his more extreme supporters will be unable to refrain from deploying sexist and racially fraught language, which they fear will hurt him with crucial voting blocs. Already, House Republican leaders, including Speaker Mike Johnson (La.), have admonished their members not to attack Harris because of her race and overall identity after several Republican lawmakers dismissed her as the “DEI candidate,” using the abbreviation for “diversity, equity and inclusion.”….
There is going to be a whole lot of craziness with the Trump appearance at the Black Journalist Convention which just began,.
He is already off to a predictable start. I wonder if he will storm off the stage.

One of them was that VP Harris “used to be Indian and then turned black. Is she Indian or is she black? Someone should look into that.”
He seemed to indicate that he never knew she was black until she announced for President.

james you and I have gone over your frequent use of the “mixed” term a lot in the past.
I do not know if you can recognize it, but the way you use it seems similar to what Trump is doing, in which he is trying to imply that if a person is not 100 percent biologically “black” they should somehow be considered inauthentic.
I just bring up the point to give respect to BOTH parents…….

In regards to Obama, he was not even raised by his father and he had virtually no direct impact on his life. We should honor parents of course, especially those who are good ones, but we do not need to “honor” someone based on their race. All sorts of people are raised by parents or parent figures who have different skin colors.

“This is clearly a new race with an energized Democrat Party taking on a somewhat surprised Republican Party. There will be more difficult days for Kamala Harris on the campaign trail, as she will be tested like she has never been before. However,this race is probably now going to turn down to being a referendum on Trump. Many Americans, fearful of the other side, will vote for him reluctantly, but he is showing warning signs of being apt to lash out and say something on camera so outrageous and so impossible to defend, that many of those voters will think twice.”
He’s probably only going to get crazier. There is a long way to go.
Harris may have been the first ever “Indian all the way” to attend Howard University.
I am going to deliberately leave names out of this but.. I want to think back to the days of PDog101 past.
Years ago, when Kamala Harris was first being talked about as a Presidential candidate, there was a particular poster here who said that he knew Ms. Harris and she did not identify as black or talk about being black and that she presented herself as purely post-racial and that is what made her so appealing. I thought it was odd that she would not make a point out of being the nation’s only black female Senator or indeed one of the few black people to ever serve in the U.S. Senate thus far, so I went and quickly looked at her official biography and she was very clearly making reference, appropriately so in the context, to being a black American.
Just now, the fact check guy at CNN (who has far too much work for any human whenever Trump does a big event) just went on air and talked about how he looked back at Harris’s past official biographies from years ago and pointed out that she was identifying as black back then too.
So, Trump and this unnamed poster seemed to be of the same mind on this ridiculous claim that Kamala Harris used to deny or somehow diminish the fact that she was a black/Caribbean-American in addition to also being Indian-American. And Trump said all these things in Chicago today…How cosmic.

All the JD Vance talk is fun and all (and he was asked a lot about him in the encounter today) but as I have been saying, it is the person at the top of the ticket that always matters more and I knew it would just be a matter of time before Trump did something to put everything back on himself and that people will not be talking about Vance too much. A couple of months from now, today’s events may be considered pretty small by comparison.

You can read between the lines in how Trump defends Vance and realize he thinks that Vance is crazy. Trump doesn’t care though. He is not planning on having his VP do anything important if he gets into office. He basically said today that Vance would not be ready on Day 1 but that is not a problem because Trump had passed two cognitive tests.
If Trump loses, he will of course never admit to it, but he will at that point throw Vance under the bus and try to blame him. He wants Vance to get “bad press” so that he can do just that.

The media “wants” any Democrat but that’s not the point.
Biden was the incumbent. The race was a referendum on him. Biden could not and would not ever get past the age baggage.
Now, the race is a referendum on Trump. Unless he can change that, he probably loses. They will be doing all they can to try to change it, so hold on any popping bottles or talking about “landslide is coming” but I think it will be very hard for Trump to overcome his cooked-in negatives.
But just think how recent it was that you james (and many others) were so resistant to all this logic when myself (and many others out there) were telling you this at the time.
One thing that will NOT change, even with the change of candidates, is that this going to be a very ugly campaign for America right up until the end, and it is only going to get uglier, regardless of which party loses, in the immediate aftermath.

Attending this event, which was said to be a decision made just yesterday, was complete hubris. Makes no sense. Everyone who will claim that Trump did great and that he was treated so unfairly (and there will be many of those people) are already with him. It was like going to the Libertarian Convention, except nobody was really paying attention to that.
Trump’s appearance and rhetoric and behavior today will be the main media focus for the rest of the week now. Harris can hold off on her VP rollout until it might start to fade away a bit.
