President Joe Biden endorsed his Vice President Kamala Harris to take over the nomination as he backed out of the run….
Harris HAS received a growing list of support and endorsements…
THAT IS critical for her to NOT have the party lurch into a protracted nomination battle in the August Democratic Convention…
Democrats ARE going to HAVE to quickly get back in the game campaigning against Donald Trump and the Republicans who had a few weeks NOT being countered by Biden and Democrats….
One would also suspect that after examining Harris?
The media WILL return to warming up the election horse race ….
Republicans are already turning to go after Harris….
Vice President Kamala Harris said she will seek the Democratic nomination to replace President Joe Biden, after Biden suddenly ended his campaign and endorsed her earlier Sunday.
“I am honored to have the president’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” Harris said in a statement issued by Biden’s campaign. “Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead.”….
…
The big picture: There’s a movement underway among some Democratic officials and operatives to bypass Vice President Harris as Biden’s successor — or at least make the nomination a contest rather than a coronation.
- They’re floating names like Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, or California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Reality check: Even beyond Biden’s powerful endorsement, there are at least five reasons the mission to bypass Harris is unlikely to succeed.
1. Money: The Biden campaign’s war chest — $91 million as of the last filing in June — could easily be transferred to Harris but not to any other candidate.
- The roughly $150 million held by other Biden-aligned entities could hypothetically move to another Democrat, and there may be other ways to repurpose that $91 million. But it’s all much simpler if Harris is nominated.
2. History: As a Black and Asian American woman, Harris is already a history-making VP. She could be the first woman president.
- She’s also already first in the line of succession, meaning a party that relies on Black women as the core of its support would have to pass over a Black woman to nominate someone else.
- Party elders including former DNC Chair Donna Brazile have warned that would cause an “uproar.” Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), told Axios’ Hans Nichols it could “be the kiss of death for the party.”
3. Expected endorsements: Party heavyweights including Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) put down markers by saying they would back Harris if Biden dropped.
- The Obamas and Clintons will likely throw their weight behind Harris too after Biden’s endorsement, as Axios’ Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei reported.
4. Party unity: Senior Democrats have moved very cautiously in their mission to convince Biden to go. Many aren’t ready to plunge into the unknown by letting multiple candidates fight it out one month before the convention.
- A convention fight could get ugly, fast. Some Democrats and liberal columnists have warned it could even cause a lasting schism.
-
- The DNC is moving to finalize a virtual roll call for the party’s nominee by early August — a move originally intended to lock in Biden that could instead end up neutralizing any effort to unseat Harris at the convention in Chicago.
5. Legitimacy: The Biden-Harris ticket won 14 million votes and swept the (largely uncontested) primaries.
- She’s the only potential candidate who can claim to have won her party’s backing at the ballot box, rather than in a backroom or on a convention floor…..

For those in Never…Never Land?
Kamala Harris DOES have Negatives….
You WILL be hearing them soon….

So Republicans are going to raise negatives about Harris?Gee there’s a revelation.
Any other gems there Peter the Rabbit?

Facts: Harris was polling better than Biden in recent NYT polls in swing states. Fact: The vast majority of Democrats would be satisfied with her as the nominee.
Definitely risky making the substitution, but Biden was leading Trump 0% of the time this year.

PoliticalWire points out that at 78 years of age Trump will be the oldest major party Presidential nominee in history.
Keith says
Trump called his running mate JD Vance JD Wentworth in a speech, Donnie has clearly lost it and the Republicans should replace him on the ticket immediately.
Joe Biden saved our nation when he beat Trump four years ago, and has taken the first step in saving us again — as a democracy.
Biden has been the best President in over 70 years. He deserves our admiration and praise.
jamesb says
Indeed Keith……..
I fronted Biden here and got grief from some here….
His thanks is GTF off the stage
CG says
He will get thanks now that he is getting off stage. He has nobody to blame but himself.
If Trump can be defeated in November, those in his party who worked to push Biden out will be considered saviors. Dean Phillips will be considered a tragic hero.
Scott P says
So you are voting for Harris now right CG?
jamesb says
NOW Scott!
Focus revert’s BACK TO Trump
CG says
This Wentworth didnt really happen did it? I thought Scott was just making a joke. I went to search for it and it does not seem to have actually happened.
So, maybe there is just some honest confusion above.
Ghost of SE says
Democrats actually have a rock solid chance at winning for the first time since before the debate fiasco. However much pushing was involved, it was clearly the right choice. Because a perceivably deflated football stood no chance against the Chairman of the Hannibal Lecter Fan Club.
Now it’s on to November and 410 electoral votes, 255 House seats, and 54 Senate seats!

Top Harris VP contenders:
KY Governor Andy Beshear
AZ Senator Mark Kelly
Former AL Senator Doug Jones
NC Governor Roy Cooper
GA Senator Raphael Warnock
MD Senator Chris Van Hollen
Former Ohio Congressman, ’20 Presidential contender Tim Ryan
Ghost of SE says
Whitmer is probably more valuable in her current job, though Senator Gary Peters from Michigan would also be a viable option.
CG says
Shapiro has now explicitly endorsed Harirs. I think Whitmer might have also, or said she is not running.
JB Pritzker in his statement did not issue an endorsement of Harris. Maybe he thinks he can do a 1952 Adlai Stevenson as Illinois Governor at a Chicago convention after an incumbent declined to seek another term.
Post FDR and the Constitutional Amendment, every time an eligible President has declined to seek reelection, it has been a Democrat, with the convention occurring in Chicago. Third time now.

I hear that I have an in-law who has expressed support for Pete Buttigieg to be the next Presidential nominee.

News: some Democratic donors and officials are reaching out to Sen. Joe Manchin to consider standing for the presidential nomination, per two people familiar with the discussions
Scott P says
Manchin is a former Democrat in his mid 70s..
He’s not what his former party is clamoring for.
CG says
For now, I am joining Aaron Sorkin in holding out for the bipartisan Romney/Manchin ticket.
Would I vote for Harris? I will have to think about it. I don’t think Biden took my quid pro quo into consideration or even knew about it. My one vote in Illinois surely does not mean anything. I am definitely not voting for Trump. People who live in swing states matter much more than me and that is what the party needs to appeal to. As a voter, I would want to know what she has to say about supporting Israel and Ukraine and that she would not express support for ideas her party has previously rejected such as packing the Supreme Court or ending the Senate filibuster.
Keith says
So in the face of an existential threat to our democracy Corey Gross has said he will essentially vote for Trump by throwing his vote away on a third party.
The choice is between Harris orcTrump.
CG says
I am a persuadable voter. Insulting me is definitely not a good strategy for trying to win my vote for your team.
Just look back to all the damage that H. Keith Lesnick did when he went to Ohio to try to get votes for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and instead cost her a ton of votes, by getting into fights with swing voters there and insulting them by calling the women fat and ugly. This is similar and they ought to learn the lesson from that debacle.
I understand that Hillary and Patti Solis Doyle and several others high up in that campaign cringe whenever they hear the name Keith Lesnick and the infamous damage he did in Ohio.
Ghost of SE says
Oh, I forgot that little detail about his visit to Ohio. He should be blackballed from future campaigns and sent to the same glue factory as Biden.
Progressives are fine. Regressive Republican plants, not so much.
Keith says
Making shit up again I see Corey Gross.
I worked a precinct for Hillary just like I will work a precinct for Kamala because we can’t let Donald Trump get anywhere near the White House. I won my precinct and will again as I return to help Sherrod Brown in a very tough campaign against a used car salesman.
It’s simply patriotism that prompts any of us to encourage voters to cast their ballot for the only person who will be on the ballot that can defeat Donald Trump, a sex offender, felon, and tax cheat. I am not sure why you can’t see that.
Since President Biden’s announcement all of the State Party Chairs have endorsed Kamala and we’ve raised 30 million dollars for the campaign in four hours.
Can’t wait for the convention.
CG says
Clearly, for the sake of democracy, I need to contact Sherrod’s campaign and warn them about what happened in Ohio in 2016 and that someone who is claiming to be a worker for their campaign named Keith Lesnick is still fantasizing about an assassination of Donald Trump on his social media. If they want to win, this seems way too risky.

For the Josh Shapiro fans here….
Josh Shapiro throws support behind Harris after Biden drops out
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) formally threw his support behind Vice President Harris to lead the Democratic Party’s presidential ticket in November following news President Biden will drop out of the race.
“The best path forward for the Democratic Party is to quickly unite behind Vice President Harris and refocus on winning the presidency,” Shapiro said in a statement on Sunday. “The contrast in this race could not be clearer and the road to victory in November runs right through Pennsylvania – where this collective work began.
I will do everything I can to help elect Kamala Harris as the 47th President of the United States.”
jamesb says
It DOES seem that the talk of challenges to Harris are evaporating….
Who would be ur choice for VP Keith?
Keith says
There are obvious choices, Governor Cooper, Andy Beshear, Senator Kelly, and the Navy Admiral McRaven who ran the bin Laden operation (a dark horse for sure).
Since I know Senator Kelly fairly well, he’s my favorite.
But, Kamala was an Attorney General along with Cooper and they click and he’s from a swing state.
Today is an historic day and nothing that Corey Gross can write or even do will ruin that for me. His silly stalking of my Facebook page and accusations notwithstanding, he can’t ruin this for me. It’s clear this development upsets him, only he can explain why. But, he’s been writing these silly things for over 15 years now. So go ahead Corey, write to Sherrod, but when you do, please send him a contribution.
I have known Kamala for 20 years – I supported her for all the offices she has run for and worked precincts when she ran for DA. We’ve had dinner together, John and I hosted a fundraiser for her when she ran for the Senate. I will be at the convention, we’re hosting a dinner for California delegates and I will live blog it for you occasionally if you like James.
Looking forward to telling Joe Biden thank you and looking forward to helping to elect Kamala President.
jamesb says
As Biden had my vote ……
Harris will also…..
While Kelly had some focus in the last couple of days?
I would think Harris as a West Coaster would want someone on the East Coast and Cooper should be a boost in NC which I’m inclined to think could vote Democratic come November….
Props to you for your efforts to help the party mount an effort against a guy who had no business being President, proved that and was booted out by voters….
One can only hope and pray THAT occurs AGAIN……
Thank You….
Please let me know if want to contribute here on the convention…..
Scott P says
Going back on your word I see.
Scott P says
Romney/Manchin LOL.
Two 75 plus year old white guys.

I can’t wait for a September Debate…Kamala needs to get in her Senator mode, she was a good senator, wasn’t a great Presidential candidate, but now she just needs to keep hammering Trump on his personality and remind people what he is and how repugnant he is…Keep it focused on the personality of Trump…
Keith says
Trump is backing out.
