President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race, a stunning development that completely upends the campaign for the White House, the New York Times reports.
Said Biden: “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
The focus now shifts to Vice President Kamala Harris and whether she can grab the nomination or will be challenged.

I think Cooper or Beshear will be at the top of the VP list. Is Cooper popular enough to get NC? Maybe not. Obviously, Kentucky will not be in play, but Beshear could help nationally.
I sort of doubt Mark Kelly even wants to run nationally.
It will not be Newsom. There cannot be two Californians on the ticket unless the party plans to get to 270 without California.
I doubt Harris will pick another woman.
Shapiro could definitely help in PA. However, he is Jewish, and a religious one at that. Harris is also married to a Jewish man. There are elements within the Democrat coalition that would struggle with all that.

I think Democrats should expect a confusing, rocky, and difficult week There will be a lot of incoming attacks, some internal division, and a lot to “spin.” This is a pretty historically unprecedented event. I would not expect any immediate polls to show Harris doing all that great against Trump, considering. There will be enormous focus on her.
Next Sunday though will mark 100 days until the election, and starting around that point, the party will have a much better chance to flip the narrative of the race.

My VP choices now are Beshear followed closely by Shapiro.
I don’t know that VPs guarantee a purple stare goes one way or the other. Paul Ryan didn’t give Mitt Romney Wisconsin.
If Cooper could flip NC, then it should be an easy decision.
If nothing else, I would hope Democrats really want to try to do what they can to prevent the lunatic nominated by Republicans from becoming Governor there.
I think Cooper has a reasonable chance to flip NC .
