Democrats are joined by four Republican’s in not supporting the impeachment of DHS Secretary Mayorkas….
The House rejected an effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, 214 to 216.
This is another major embarrassment for Speaker Mike Johnson and the House Republican leadership.

Impeachment post is Here…
CG says
Blake Moore of Utah, who is the Vice Chair of the Republican Conference really had to take one for the team.
He supports impeaching Mayorkas but had to switch his vote to no, just so that he can ask for another vote on it tomorrow morning when Scalise is apparently going to be back in town.
There are probably not a lot of MAGA folks who understand Congressional procedure though, so Blake Moore is going to be denounced as an enemy all over social media and they are probably all calling his office, trying to find out where he lives, etc. I cannot feel sorry for him, but this was probably the most thankless task any member of Congress has had to do in recent memory.

With Scalise they are still short on something that doesn’t have a prayer in the Senate….
This is like the useless stuff they did all last year that went NOWHERE….
Waste of taxpayers money!

I wonder could the Democrats postpone the vote to next Wednesday when Suozzi could be sworn in?
jamesb says
They took Gallagher in a room i read to twist his arms and Scalise isn’t due back fir a week or two……
Again Suozzi should become available to Democrats by next week…:
CG says
Whatever they tried on Gallagher did not work.
According to Ken Buck, who also voted no, Scalise is going to be there tomorrow morning. I hate to think he is putting his health at risk over this.
Again, assuming Suozzi wins, which I think is more likely than not, it probably does not get certified for maybe another two weeks, based on recent NY vote counting history.
Regardless, he cannot get sworn in unless Mike Johnson, with Donald Trump’s hand up his ass, says it is ok.
CG says
1. No Democrats cannot postpone. They are in the minority
2. Assuming Suozzi even wins, the Republicans would probably not allow him to be sworn in with this still pending
3, It takes them forever to count the votes in New York anyway.
4. They are short in the House, not the Senate. It looks like it will pass the House tomorrow morning.
5. Blake Moore’s staffers are in for a very rough night because of very dumb people.

NY 3rd is on LI…….
Vote results should be known by 11pm….
Desperation?
For something the Senate has no use for,..
CG says
MTG specifically and a bunch of other assorted yahoos are actually going to get to go to the floor of the U.S. Senate as Impeachment Managers and speak at length in front of the entire Senate.
I think Biden and his DHS have been very bad on the issue of the border, but this is a joke.
jamesb says
BTW?
This whole impeachment thing is just a way to NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT Donald Trump chance’s of being a convicted felon just went UP
Democratic Socialist Dave says
The (only) four Republicans who voted against impeachment:
Buck Republican Colorado NAY
Gallagher Republican Wisconsin NAY
McClintock Republican California NAY
Moore (UT) Republican Utah NAY
jamesb says
Hey CG?
Ref: our discussion last night?
NOBODY is talking about a RE-VOTE on Mayorkas….
CG says
Yes, they are. Johnson said today it will happen. Apparently, whenever Scalise is back. I saw something like they think they are required to wait at least 2 legislative days after the last vote before it can come up again.

Hmmmmm?
Speaker Johnson amid criticism: ‘Mess’ in House not ‘a reflection on the leader’
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Wednesday downplayed problems in the House GOP conference a day after his leadership team lost two votes in a row on the House floor.
Asked Wednesday about criticism that he is inexperienced and remarks from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who said the ouster of Johnson’s predecessor, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) had been an “unmitigated disaster,” Johnson suggested the conference was moving in the right direction…..

….the House speaker’s office confirmed in a written statement that Republican leaders “fully intend to bring Articles of Impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas back to the floor when we have the votes for passage.”
And when, pray tell, will that be?….

Depending on the timing of Steve Scalise’s return (or depending on if there are further GOP absences), the fate of Mayorkas’ impeachment could hinge on outcome of next Tuesday’s NY-3 race. Mazi Pilip, the GOP candidate, told me she supports impeaching Mayorkas here
