It certainly isn’t in President Biden, Democrats or even leaders in the Republican party in Congress….
House Republicans have brushed other things aside and will keep trying to screw the Democratic President anyway they can….
Trump IS stnding on the sidelines giving Reublican lawmakers support and direction….
Things may NOT get much better until January, when the House is sure to switch back to the Democrats…
The decision by Republicans in Congress to torpedo a bipartisan border deal they demanded has left the fate of aid to Ukraine and Israel in peril, closing off what had been seen as the best remaining avenue on Capitol Hill for approval of critical military aid to American allies.
The political paralysis in the face of pleas from President Biden, lawmakers in both parties and leaders around the world for quick action raised immediate questions about whether Congress would be able to salvage the emergency aid package — and if so, how.
The result was a vivid portrait of congressional dysfunction at the hands of Republicans. After helping to kill a border crackdown they had insisted upon, they were set to spend the day in the House trying to impeach Alejandro N. Mayorkas, the homeland security secretary, on charges that he has willfully refused to enforce border laws.
Dug in against the border deal and new aid to Kyiv, the House also was set on Tuesday to try to push through legislation sending $17.6 billion in military assistance to Israel. But that measure, which omits help for Ukraine or humanitarian aid for Palestinians, was facing steep resistance from hard-right Republicans, who complained that the money was not paired with spending cuts. It also faced opposition from Democrats and Mr. Biden, who has threatened a veto, calling the bill a cynical attempt to pre-empt the security legislation brokered in the Senate….
…
The grim reality appeared to be sinking in for the nation’s allies and diplomatic leaders who for months have anxiously watched and hoped for momentum on Capitol Hill for approving aid, despite clear signs that the strong bipartisan consensus for such a measure was fraying….
…
“The reality of hard-power competition simply does not wait for the president or Congress to take it seriously,” Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky and the minority leader, said on Tuesday.
But a restive G.O.P. voter base is dead set against sending another round of aid to Ukraine, and rank-and-file Republicans, especially in the slim-majority House, have flexed their muscles to oppose any real movement.
After reports indicated there was no clear path ahead for Congress to approve aid to Ukraine and Israel on Tuesday morning, Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida was exultant on social media. He cited a line from the film “Apocalypse Now”: “I love the smell of napalm in the morning!”….

Somewhere Russian President Putin IS smiling before going on Fox News with Tucker Carlson ….
This while Israel Prime Minister keeps giving Biden the finger in public also….

From a J Street appeal Tuesday afternoon for petition signatures:
House Speaker Mike Johnson is trying to destroy a bipartisan effort to fund urgent military aid to Ukraine and Israel as well as humanitarian aid to Gaza – and he’s weaponizing security aid to Israel to do it.
We need you to tell your Members of Congress to push back.
Here’s what you need to know:
This Weekend: Senate Republicans and Democrats reached a bipartisan deal to secure the border, fund military aid to Ukraine and Israel, and fund humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
Then: Former President Trump told Republicans to reject the deal they negotiated in order to deny Democrats a victory and keep border control a live issue for Trump in November.
Now: Egged on by Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson is pushing for a vote TONIGHT for his alternative “no strings attached” military aid package just for the Israeli government: No oversight measures. No humanitarian aid. No support for Ukraine.
This rushed vote is a blatant effort to derail aid to Gaza and Ukraine. Johnson is daring Members to vote ‘NO’ on this inadequate alternative, knowing that Trump, AIPAC and the MAGA movement will attack them as “anti-Israel” if they do.
The White House and Democratic House Leader Jeffries are pushing back, blasting Republicans for this “political ploy” with President Biden threatening to veto the bill. But the only way to defeat this effort is if Members of Congress stand united and reject those who play political games with Israel’s security and Palestinian lives….

Biden has said he’d veto this House bill which is just another effort to screw with Biden …

There WILL HAVE TO BE a spending bill passed by Congress next month…..
Johnson can go for another 3 months delay…….
The question will be ?
Biden or Trump Foreign Policy till the end of November?

Effort to impeach Mayorkas FAILS on the House floor.
Epic fail for the hapless House Republicans.
CG says
They will have to try again when Scalise is healthy enough to vote.
jamesb says
Four GOPer’s voted’Nay’….
CG says
The fourth no vote was a procedural one so they can call it up for a vote again.
Assuming Scalise is back in the Chamber tomorrow, and everyone else still votes, it will pass 216-215.
It’s a shame only 3 Republicans in the House have the guts to follow the Constitution.
CG says
This specific House vote on Mayorkas should probably be the number one issue for the special election in Long Island.
I am sure both sides are polling the district on it.
CG says
Whatever one thinks of the border crisis or the Biden Administration’s DHS handling of it, there should be kudos to Republicans Ken Buck, Tom McClintock, and Mike Gallagher for standing firm and not giving in to political pressure on this vote.
Impeaching a Cabinet Secretary for nothing other than a policy difference, who would just be replaced by someone else who would implement the same policy is dumb and nothing more than pointless political theatrics, especially since it will only waste the time of the Senate before an acquittal.
CG says
Apparently, Scalise will be back tomorrow, so it will pass then. Thus, it will not hinge on the Long Island special election.
Still a huge waste of time and a bad precedent.
Bad vote counting for Mike Johnson though to think it could pass tonight. There will be a ton of MAGA hysteria for now at least over the failure.

Indeed CG…….
Like border policy itself
The politics is driving this NOT TRYING to solve a problem

Dem Suozzi is FOR Border bill….
CG says
They thought Democrat Al Green of Texas would not be there to vote today. (I am not sure the reason) but apparently he popped up on the House floor. It was probably an interesting scene when the Republicans saw him there.

Somebody needs to invite Lauren Boebert to a musical.
