I guess the ole timer just got tired of holding the line against the Trump thing in Congress….
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) is stepping down as Senate Republican leader in November, ending his history-setting tenure as longest serving Senate party leader.
McConnell, who turned 82 this month, is announcing the decision in a speech on the Senate floor.
The news was first reported by The Associated Press, which obtained a copy of his prepared remarks.
“One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter,” McConnell said in prepared remarks obtained by the AP. “So I stand before you today … to say that this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate.”
McConnell said he plans to serve out the remainder of his term, which ends in January 2027…..
Note…
I wouldn’t be surprised in Attorney General Garland and Barack Obama smiling……

Phillip Bump, Washington Post National Political columnist,,”The GOP becomes more obviously the party of Trump each day.Mitch McConnell announces he will step down from Republican leadership in the Senate ,marking the collapse of one of the last foundational elements of the old GOP establishment.”

Yup ……
With 30% of the parties voters NOT up to vote for the knucklehead

Just because they won’t vote for him in the primary doesn’t mean they won’t vote for him in the general. It is Trump’s party, some would not prefer him, but they will all vote for him and tow the line…You been at this long enough to know better James…
I do believe on the Democratic side, some of those no candidate votes won’t vote…which could enable Trump to win…Flip Michigan that way…

James doesn’t understand the simple concept that just because a Republican would vote against Trump in a primary doesn’t necessarily mean they will not vote for him in November.

Bdog?
Biden and Democrats HAVE BEEN out performing since 2020…….
Biden has been doing so this year

If someone thinks that all of the people voting in Republican primaries against Trump will not vote for him in November, they are wrong.
At the same time, it is also wrong to think that all of those people will vote for Trump in November.
I would estimate that about 40 percent of people who have or will vote against Trump in Republican primaries will not vote for him in November and that is a significant. This does not mean that all of those people will vote for Biden in November.
I would be among this approximate 40 percent, but that is only if Nikki Haley is still running on March 19. It seems very possible she will have dropped out by then. I hope not though.
If that happens, my choice will be to ask for a Democrat ballot (as I did in the 2020 primary) mostly for the purpose of exerting influence on a local race. For the Presidential portion of the ballot, I would plan to write in the words-
“Support Israel, Joe.”

Just because GOP lawmakers are afraid of Trump doesn’t mean ALL REPUBLICANS who vote WILL be stupid enough to vote for the guy who lost last time and was a sore loser
