As I look back over the events of this afternoon, I am increasingly impressed with how Biden dealt with the current age flap. The Hur Report is, in so many ways, the equivalent of the Starr Report (and later the Comey testimony) – the fruit of an investigation by a politically hostile law enforcement agent into an issue that reinforced public perception of a President or candidate’s weakness – in Starr’s case, Clinton’s sexual immorality and propensity to lie, in Comey’s case Hillary’s secrecy and propensity for lawyerly parsing and in Hur’s case Biden’s age and mental acuity. I could also add the Mueller Report and how Putin helped elect Trump.
It’s generally acknowledged that Clinton and Trump politically won their showdowns with their Special Counsels, while Hillary lost hers with Comey.
How did they win? They responded forcefully, questioned their opponents’ motives or basic morality and never gave an inch in public to the core allegations (even though Clinton did express some mild regret over his behavior). Hillary, on the other hand, stalled, obfuscated, minimized and eventually waved the thing off without attacking Comey or the premises of his investigation as she should have. And that was before he re-opened the whole thing a week before Election Day to breath life into that nothing burger.
Biden is very much following the Bill Clinton/Trump playbook and he did a great job tonight directly going after a political hit job by a Republican/MAGA prosecutor who couldn’t possibly charge him, so he went after Biden’s age (and what the fuck does that have to do with whether he broke to law?). Nope Uncle Joe never gave an inch tonight in the face of a bunch of screaming reporters that would have made either one to the Bush boys faint.
But, more importantly, when all the ketchup has hit the wall, Joe is the most productive and successful President in the last 70 years, the economy is growing, inflation is falling, the the stock market has hit an all time high — and the voters, when they cut through all this typical Republican bullshit, will re-elect him.
So, as amusing as the “third party” wet dream is, it will come up dry once again.
Once again, you have a binary choice — it’s Biden or an autocrat. Choose wisely!

One is benevolent and is presiding over a gangbusters economy.
The other an autocrat who is running to stay out of prison and exact revenge on those who crossed him politically.
Both are old and may die. One has a professional and accomplished VP and cabinet to take over in that case. The other talks of appointing the most extreme right wingers since 1930s Germany.
That’s the choice.
It cracks me up that someone who pushed extreme partisanship their whole life now thinks a third party with no named candidate yet has a chance.

“On Sunday afternoon, Scott appeared on television shows to speak about his Trump endorsement and when posed with the anticipated questions, could literally be seen squirming in his chair. He got the rehearsed talking points out but in my view, (and in the observations of many others) could not erase the inner turmoil from behind his eyes. It felt to me like the more he spoke about backing Trump, the more he felt his soul escaping his body. If he is that bad of an actor, I cannot see how that will help his VP chances. Overall a good read from CG. I do quibble to his point that Biden wants to run against Trump because it’s the “only ace in the hole” for Democrats to run on.
I disagree. The economy is going gangbusters and it’s not just economists noticing it. Consumer confidence is up and wage growth is outpacing the receding inflation rate.
Once regular people start feeling better about the economy it becomes like a snowball effect. If your friends or neighbors are talking about how the economy is improving you are unlikely to dispute it. Because complaining about the supposed “bad economy” starts to look like it’s YOU who are underperforming.

The perception by many politically is that he might have slept so well he hasn’t woken up yet today.
While not a big fan of Joe Biden, I would like to give him more credit that as man who is Commander in Chief and is currently overseeing serious military action that puts many Americans at great risk he is only “sleeping well” because he whipped Marianne Williamson in a primary. At his age, Biden probably sleeps a lot anyway, but this is a pretty sad commentary of james’ true view of Joe Biden.
In contrast, Trump probably did act like someone who would be having nightmares though about only beating Nikki Haley by 11 points in NH.
Joe Biden, our President, gets my SOLID Vote in November…….
