I was in the process of posting that the House GOP leadership did NOT back kicking him out….
THAT is no longer an issue…..
The House seat is sure to return back Democrat Tome Suozzi in a upcoming Special Election that should be a month or two…
This has NOT happened in 20 years…..
The vote was 311-114-2…..
The House voted Friday to expel Rep. George Santos, ending the New York Republican’s tumultuous tenure in Congress and officially etching his name in the history books as the sixth lawmaker ever to be ousted from the lower chamber.
The extraordinary move, unseen in 20 years, took three attempts over six months and required support from large numbers in both parties to meet the inflated threshold — two-thirds of the chamber — for expelling a sitting member. The final tally, 311-114-2, surpassed that mark, with 105 Republicans joining almost all Democrats to remove the scandal-plagued Santos after just 11 months in office.
The measure brought fresh attention to the bubbling tensions within the Republican conference, but its ultimate success demonstrated just how toxic Santos had become in the eyes of even many of his GOP colleagues.
Once seen as a GOP trailblazer, Santos is facing federal indictment on 23 counts of wire fraud, identity theft and other campaign finance charges, and many Republicans came to view him as a drag on the party’s image and a liability heading into a tough election cycle where control of the House is up for grabs.
Yet Santos’s ouster also creates immediate hassles for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and his leadership team, whose razor-thin House majority just got a seat thinner heading into high-stakes battles to prevent a government shutdown and provide new funding for Ukraine and Israel — two topics that have created fierce rifts within the GOP conference….
Some more detail on this from RHH, a Right leaning site….

Too bad..
Santos is the epitome of what the Republican Party is all about.
It is laughable that some Republicans voted to expel Santos while avidly supporting an authoritarian like Trump.
I mean this clown was just a common grifter and no real threat to anyone.Trump? He’s a threat to the American republic.
Most Republicans couldn’t care less.

But the Long Island House Republicans get props…..
They stayed on the Santos case…..
And dragged some in the party their way….
Again….
The seat IS most likely a Democratic lock with Suozzi in the Special Election…
Ghost of SE says
I would appraise that seat, and any of the NY flips from last year, a toss up. Underneath the big Biden margins is also big margins for seditionist Lee Zeldin in his Governor run last year. Not clear to me which tendency of the voters will prevail, even with the Santos fiasco.
jamesb says
As a New Yorker?
I see NO CHANCE Zeldin could get to the Governorship…
NONE….
The district Santos HAD belongs to Suozzi who gave it up for a ill fated run for Governor….
Remember?
Republicans got the guy kicked out….
Suozzi IS an incumbent….
We’ll see….
But I’m on record for a Suozzi easy win to regain his seat
Ghost of SE says
I’d rather see one of Suozzi’s D opponents, Anna Kaplan being the bost serious probably, get an opportunity. He’s had his chance.
Looking at the P1 list of candidates, D’s would be criminally incompetent if they lost this one. The best Republicans have in their roster of announced or potential candidates is a member of the Catsimatidis clown show. But this is the NY Democratic Party, which with CA Democrats helped lose the House last year.

*most serious
jamesb says
He, he, he…..
Yup….
I think 2 of those Dem’s first listed as running for the NY-3 have dropped out and endorsed Suozzi…
Met him a couple of time’s…..
He’s alright….

Roll call:

Slightly more Republicans voted against expulstion than voted for. The leadership — Mike Johnson, Elise Stefanik and Steve Scalise — voted nay, as did two Democrats, including Bobby Scott of Virginia.
